Anakin and Padme's love story takes a haunting twist in a remarkable Star Wars cosplay piece. The Star Wars narrative revolves around the tragic metamorphosis of Anakin Skywalker into the formidable Darth Vader, with his affection for his wife serving as a significant catalyst for his descent into the dark side. In a desperate bid to prevent Padmé from perishing during childbirth, Anakin aligns himself with Darth Sidious. Regrettably, he fails to alter the course of events that ultimately lead to her demise, solidifying his embrace of malevolence.
Shared on Instagram by Darth Vader cosplayer Darth Burkhard, this cosplay showcases fellow cosplayer Devina (@devina_cosplay) embodying the role of Padmé Amidala, offering a glimpse into what the couple could have looked like had Padmé survived the prequel trilogy.
Though Padmé is dressed in her white Battle of Geonosis attire, Anakin is already donning his complete Vader suit, accompanied by the caption "…if Padme had succumbed to her husband's temptation towards the Dark Side…" Equipped with a blaster and wielding Vader's iconic lightsaber, the duo appears prepared to face any adversary.
Padmé Lives On In Star Wars Through Luke Skywalker
Though Padmé did not survive Anakin's descent into the dark side, her children did. Luke, who was raised on Anakin's home planet Tatooine, followed in his father's footsteps and became a Jedi. However, Luke's essence embodies that of his mother. Just before Padmé passes away, she firmly believes that there is still hope for Anakin's redemption. Despite the doubts expressed by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Leia regarding Vader's irredeemable nature, Luke clings to the same conviction about his father and goes to great lengths to bring him back to the light.
Vader invites his son to join him in ruling the galaxy, just as he had once offered the same proposition to his wife years ago. However, Luke responds with the same unwavering commitment to justice that Padmé had shown. Unlike Padmé, Luke had the advantage of getting to know Vader without the burden of emotional attachment to Anakin, enabling him to better appeal to his father's dormant Jedi side. Combining his Jedi combat skills with this understanding, Luke manages to establish a stronger connection with Vader than Padmé ever could, ultimately leading to Vader's redemption. In doing so, Luke accomplishes what his mother had set out to achieve when she confronted Anakin on Mustafar.
