The introduction of numerous new characters in Gen V has brought fresh faces to The Boys franchise, subtly hinting at the potential main antagonists for the upcoming season. Gen V is set within the vast and expansive universe of The Boys, where any supe or human could unexpectedly emerge, wreaking havoc. While several characters from The Boys could potentially serve as season 2's primary villains, it appears that Gen V will once again feature original characters. Although not officially confirmed, we may already have an idea of who the main villains in Gen V season 2 will be.
Gen V has finally arrived, bringing with it the highly-anticipated season 1 finale of the Amazon Prime Video spin-off series, The Boys. This new installment takes a fresh approach to The Boys universe by shifting the focus to Godolkin University, a renowned institution for supes. We follow the story of Marie Moreau, a talented blood-bender who seizes the opportunity to enroll in the prestigious Vought-run university. Little does she know, her arrival uncovers a far-reaching conspiracy, leading Marie and her fellow supe friends to confront a multitude of adversaries. As we speculate on the next main villain for Gen V season 2, these two characters appear to be the most likely candidates.
Gen V Episode 7 Teases Sam Becoming A Villain
In Gen V episode 1, Sam Riordan played a prominent role as one of the main characters. His story was crucial in the investigation of Vought's The Woods facility and the creation of the supe virus. Despite his violent and unstable nature, Sam stood by Marie, Emma, and the other heroes of the show. He was portrayed as a valued member of the team in the early episodes of season 1. While Sam's morals remained mostly unchanged, a surprising revelation in Gen V episode 7 hinted at a potentially darker path for him in season 2.
The Godolkin gang faced a division concerning Dean Shetty, the head of Godolkin University secretly involved in developing a deadly supe virus. While some supes advocated for sparing her, Sam opposed this idea, explicitly expressing that supes are superior to humans. His belief in supes' supremacy aligns him more closely with villains like Homelander and Stormfront rather than the heroes of Gen V or The Boys. This ideology may push him towards a villainous role in the upcoming season.
Gen V's Cate Has Evolved Into A Powerful Enemy For Season 2
Cate initially played a friendly role among Marie and the gang in the beginning of the show. However, as the story progressed, her character evolved into a more explicitly villainous role than Sam by the end of Gen V episode 7. Previously, it was revealed that Cate was the twist villain for Gen V, as she manipulated Marie and her friends' memories to make them forget about The Woods facility. However, once her involvement in the conspiracy was exposed, Cate turned against Vought and helped her friends regain their memories. The tension surrounding Cate's reintegration into the friend group remains high, and there is a possibility that her villainous journey is far from over.
Cate has progressively embraced her supe supremacy, indicating that her villainous arc may involve her targeting and eliminating anti-supe humans. Her first step in this direction was the killing of Dean Shetty, which demonstrated her violent retaliation against Vought. Presently, Cate is one of the most powerful supes in The Boys universe, surpassing even some members of The Seven due to her mind-controlling abilities. If Cate were to devote her mind to evil deeds, stopping her would prove immensely challenging. This establishes Cate as a formidable choice for the main villain in Gen V season 2.
Why Sam & Cate Make Sense As Gen V Season 2's Villains
It actually makes perfect sense to have Sam and Cate as the villains in season 2 of Gen V. These characters have already been extensively developed, making them inherently more intriguing than introducing a new character. Additionally, their romantic ties to Emma and Andre add a personal element to the rivalry. Furthermore, Sam and Cate's shared hatred towards Vought adds another layer of complexity. If both the heroes and villains in Gen V despise Vought, it has the potential to create an exceptionally captivating storyline, setting it apart from previous villains in The Boys.
