Aunt Julia Is Susannah's Half-Sister & Skye Is Her Teenage Child
The second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty seems to be following closely to the events of Jenny Han's second novel, It's Not Summer Without You. In line with the book, season 2 maintains a darker tone compared to its predecessor, although there are notable divergences in certain scenes. The most significant deviation revolves around the sale of the Cousins Beach house. While the novel depicts Conrad and Jeremiah's conflict with their father over the inheritance of the house from their mother, Susannah, the TV adaptation introduces two additional characters who become central to this plotline. In season 2, episode 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, we are introduced to Aunt Julia and her non-binary child, Skye, who is the cousin of Conrad and Jeremiah. The character of Skye is portrayed by Elsie Fisher, while Aunt Julia is played by Kyra Sedgwick, known for her roles in The Closer and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The inclusion of Sedgwick in this role suggests that Aunt Julia is an important part of the story. Interestingly, neither Aunt Julia nor Skye are part of the original source material. However, in the series, Aunt Julia is revealed to be Susannah's half-sister and has a strong connection to the family. At this point, not much else has been disclosed about Aunt Julia or her child.
In the books, Conrad and Jeremiah's father, Adam, is determined to sell the house. He openly admits to Belly's mom, Laurel, that staying in the home that Susannah loved is too emotionally challenging since she passed away. Despite this, Laurel comes to the aid of Conrad and Jeremiah, assisting them in saving the house. However, the direction of the series is changing. While Adam may not be the main antagonist for the season, he does obstruct the brothers' attempt to combine their trust funds and purchase the home.
Is Aunt Julia The Villain In TSITP Season 2? What Her Control Over The House Means
Instead of engaging in conflict with their father, with whom their relationship is already strained, Conrad and Jeremiah find themselves pitted against Aunt Julia. According to the trailer, Susannah from The Summer I Turned Pretty left the house to Julia instead of Adam, and a few clips depicted Laurel's attempts to dissuade her from selling the property. Conrad has informed Jeremiah that Aunt Julia intends to sell the house, prompting Jeremiah and Belly to present her with hydrangeas in an effort to persuade her otherwise.
Their plan fails, and amidst their disagreement, Jeremiah discloses that his aunt did not attend Susannah's funeral. This revelation unquestionably portrays her in a negative light, suggesting her lack of compassion. Judging by the circumstances, Aunt Julia seems poised to assume the role of the primary antagonist in Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
