Mark Grayson, a 17-year-old high schooler, is the protagonist of the show. He embarks on a journey to become a superhero under the guidance of his father, Omni-Man, who happens to be the most powerful being on Earth. The Hollywood Reporter first reported news of a film adaptation in 2017, in which Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were announced as the writers, directors, and producers. Robert Kirkman, the creator of the original material, will also be involved as a producer through Skybound Entertainment's partnership with Universal Pictures. Kirkman expressed his excitement about the project and his relief that fans will finally get to see Invincible come to life, after years of being overshadowed by The Walking Dead's success.

We have been waiting for the perfect team to collaborate with for quite some time. Finally, that team has arrived! The highly respected gentlemen Goldberg and Rogen have shown themselves to be exceptional directors with a remarkable eye for captivating visuals, even though they have already achieved great success in their writing careers.

Since the show premiered in 2021, Kirkman has confirmed that the movie is still in progress, although there have been very few updates. Earlier this year, in an interview with Comic Book to commemorate Invincible's 20th anniversary, Kirkman emphasized, "We are actively working on [the movie]."

“Occasionally, films require a bit more time. Without a doubt, the show has significantly contributed to this aspect. There is an overwhelming enthusiasm among the public for the potential of this movie at Universal. As a result, we are harnessing that excitement and making every effort to expedite the progress.”

Kirkman recently spoke to Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con and provided an update on the project. Unfortunately, progress has come to a halt due to the ongoing strikes by writers and actors, a cause that he fully supports. The entire production has been put on hold, but he reassured that Universal is highly committed and they have been diligently working on it behind the scenes. Kirkman hopes that he will be able to provide a more definitive answer to this question in the near future.

Kirkman provided an update on the project in an interview with Variety ahead of Season 2's release. He mentioned that they are currently in the script development stage and expressed optimism that once the script reaches its desired state, progress can be made swiftly. However, he acknowledged the challenges they are facing in terms of creating a fresh and unique feel for the project. They are considering how to make it stand out and have its own identity while also tying it to the animated series. Kirkman acknowledged that there is a significant amount of work ahead, but they remain hopeful.

Invincible movie cast: Who’d be in it?

There’s a valid explanation for this: as of our current knowledge, no one has been chosen for the film as it is still in its initial stages. Consequently, enthusiasts have expressed their own suggestions for potential actors for each character.

Steven Yeun perfectly voices Mark in the series, but due to his age, he is not suitable to portray the character in a live-action adaptation. It is widely agreed upon that a young newcomer or rising star should be cast for the role, while more well-known actors can be cast for the supporting roles.

Omni-Man requires a formidable actor. JK Simmons is practically irreplaceable, and finding someone to fill his shoes in the movie would be challenging. However, there are a few options that could work: Jon Hamm, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Pine, Kyle Chandler, or David Harbour.

Rogen and Goldberg expressed their determination: "No matter the harm it inflicts on our physical well-being, mental state, and closest personal bonds, we will not cease our efforts until Invincible reaches the level of excellence it truly merits."

According to Kirkman, the film will not simply replicate the show's plot in live-action form. He stated that there will be noticeable differences between the movie and the television series, allowing them to coexist and complement each other. Rogen also mentioned how the success of the Invincible animated show, which faithfully followed the comic, influenced their approach to The Super Mario Bros Movie.

“At that juncture, it appeared as though crafting a live-action rendition that was commendable yet divergent might seem peculiar, neglecting the aspects that appealed to viewers in the animated iteration. Subsequently, within our minds, the live-action 'interpretation' appeared more fitting to resemble a live-action transposition of the cartoon, which itself is an unswerving adaptation of the comic.”
