The Talos Principle 2 offers not only exceptional puzzle gameplay, but also an extensive and intricate storyline. As you explore the game world, you'll have numerous opportunities to interact with characters, share your opinions, and even engage in social media activities. The game revolves around profound philosophical debates regarding the future of humanity and its position in the world. Your choices in these debates will significantly impact the narrative as you progress.
In The Talos Principle 2, there are three primary endings, along with multiple additional scenes and variations that can be unlocked under specific conditions. To assist without revealing too much, we have prepared a comprehensive guide on how to achieve each ending and access optional scenes.
Main Endings - The Final Choice
To complete the main story of The Talos Principle, players must solve eight puzzles in each of the game's 12 areas. This achievement allows access to the megastructure on four separate occasions. Throughout the game, players will encounter three characters - Prometheus, Pandora, and the Sphinx - each representing a distinct philosophical perspective on New Jerusalem's future.
During the last visit to the megastructure, players are confronted with a decision regarding the machine's fate. Three options are available, corresponding to each of the three characters, and each option leads to one of the main endings. While minor variations may occur based on previous actions, these three endings form the primary components of the epilogue.
Leap of Faith - Choose to use the machine for the betterment of New Jerusalem (Prometheus ending)
Momentum Deferred - Choose to shut the machine down because humanity isn't ready (Sphinx ending)
Variations
Opting to annihilate the machine (Pandora ending) not only affects the main ending choices, but also alters the destinies of diverse characters throughout the narrative.
The Mayor
After completing your fourth journey into the megastructure, you'll discover that an election occurred during your shutdown. The election can result in various outcomes, which will have an impact on certain aspects of the concluding cutscenes.
Throughout The Talos Principle 2, there are numerous decisions to be made, making it a challenge to determine which ones truly impact the election's outcome. However, you can shape the attitudes of New Jerusalem through your interactions on social media and in conversations. Similar to the main endings, there are three primary variations.
To ensure that Hermanubis remains the mayor, opt for conservative choices when engaging in conversations and making social media posts. Select options that portray the Goal in a positive light and advocate against the growth of New Jerusalem. Furthermore, decide to share the information obtained from the Somnodrome with the people while withholding it from the rest of New Jerusalem.
If Byron is elected mayor, opt for progressive conversations and social media posts that prioritize growth and view the Goal as detrimental and causing stagnation in New Jerusalem. Let Hermanubis know before boarding the VTOL that you believed the Goal was a harmful myth affecting humanity. Share the information from the Somnodrome with the public.
If Rand is elected mayor, choose more cautious and moderate options in conversations and social media posts. Inform Hermanubis before boarding the VTOL that you believed the Goal was a myth detrimental to humanity. Share the information from the Somnodrome with the people cautiously.
The mayor will appear in the different epilogues and you'll sometimes get different dialogue depending on who is in charge and what final choice you make.
Golden Gate Puzzles
There are 12 additional, high-level puzzles that require the completion of every other main puzzle in each area of The Talos Principle 2. This includes not just the eight puzzles needed to access the tower, but also the separate "bonus" puzzles in each area.
By completing all 120 normal puzzles, players can unlock one Golden Gate puzzle in each area. These are particularly challenging to solve, surpassing anything else in the game. If all 12 Golden Gate puzzles are completed, a final one unlocks at the megastructure location. Venturing there presents an opportunity to engage in another activity and participate in dialogue. We won't reveal the specifics of what it unlocks, but it significantly alters all three endings and even includes additional scenes.
Yaqut's Epilogue
If you successfully solve all the Golden Gate puzzles, you will be rewarded with an extra epilogue scene featuring Yaqut. Due to a bug in our playthrough, we do not have the exact requirements to unlock it, but we have a fairly good understanding of what is needed.
After your fourth visit to the megastructure, you will return to New Jerusalem before embarking on the ultimate journey back to the island for the climax of The Talos Principle 2. During this phase, you will engage in conversations with the other members of your expedition to inquire if they wish to join you on the final expedition.
It is your desire for Yaqut to accompany you on this decisive endeavor. To achieve this, it will be crucial to provide constant reassurance throughout the game regarding the perils of the megastructure, ensuring that he feels supported in his concerns. If he agrees to come with you, an additional scene related to the Golden Gate puzzle will be revealed.
Additional Scenes
Star puzzles
There are additional puzzles connected to the statues of Prometheus, Pandora, and the Sphinx located in each of the 12 areas. Within each area, you will find two statues, and solving one will grant you a Star item. By collecting all 24 Stars, you can proceed to another gate at the megastructure site, which is concealed within what the other characters refer to as an Astronomy temple. Once you add the Stars to the gate, it will eventually unlock.
Beyond the gate lies another puzzle. Solving it will unlock a new cutscene that may hint at potential story possibilities for The Talos Principle 3. Although not technically part of the ending, this additional cutscene will be triggered when you finish the final Star puzzle. It serves as an addendum to the rest of the game's narrative.
Trevor's audio logs
Scattered throughout the terminals in each area, you can discover audio logs from Trevor, a colleague of Alexandra Drennan who conceptualized the simulation that brought these innovative robotic beings to life. By locating all 12 of Trevor's logs, you will conclude his narrative and unlock an additional scene during the credits.
Finding these items is not difficult if you consistently search every area. Utilize the compass on the screen's top, which displays question mark icons to indicate undiscovered items nearby. After obtaining the complete account of Trevor, stay until the end of the credits to witness its culmination.
