A Haunting in Venice's opening weekend marks a slight improvement for the franchise, but the film is struggling to leave a lasting impact. Director-star Kenneth Branagh portrays Hercule Poirot for the third time in this murder mystery, based on Agatha Christie's lesser-known novel, Hallowe'en Party. After the success of Murder on the Orient Express in 2017 and Death on the Nile in 2022, Branagh is joined by Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jamie Dornan in A Haunting in Venice. The story follows a retired Poirot as he investigates the murder of a medium during a Halloween party in a supposedly haunted palazzo in Venice.
According to Variety, A Haunting in Venice is projected to have a slightly higher opening weekend gross than Death on the Nile, currently estimated at around $12.8 million. However, this still falls significantly short of the $28.6 million opening of Murder on the Orient Express. Additionally, A Haunting in Venice is facing tough competition from The Nun 2, which is determined to maintain its hold on the number one slot after its release on September 8.
More to come...
