Previous episodes had led viewers to believe that he had died after being shot in the head by Nakahara Chuuya. However, against all odds, Dazai managed to survive and returned in the season finale. The season finale of Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 marked the conclusion of the Vampire Infection Outbreak Arc, with the Armed Detective Agency successfully stopping Fukuchi's destructive plan. In the Bungo Stray Dogs season 5 finale, it was revealed that Chuuya Nakahara had never actually become a Vampire. Instead, he applied fake fangs to his teeth and pretended to be one, following his boss's instructions. Upon arriving in Meursault, Chuuya played the role of an ally to Fyodor Dostoevsky.

During episode 11, it was Chuuya who utilized gravity manipulation to slow down the falling elevator. This allowed Dazai to save himself and Sigma from the crash. Without this intervention, Dazai would have perished from the fall. However, he did sustain a broken leg as a result.

Having caught sight of this, Fyodor promptly dispatched Chuuya to locate Dazai and execute him. Upon arrival, however, Dazai and Chuuya skillfully convinced Fyodor that they were, in fact, adversaries. In a surprising turn of events, Chuuya aimed at Dazai's head and fired, leading both Fyodor and the loyal viewers to believe that the prominent member of the Armed Detective Agency had met his demise.

However, in the season finale of Bungo Stray Dogs, Dazai made a surprising comeback, appearing to have miraculously survived the gunshot. The revelation came when he disclosed that Chuuya had utilized his extraordinary Gravity Manipulation ability to intercept the bullet, preventing any harm from befalling Dazai.

Unable to determine if the bullet had struck Dazai due to its incredible speed, Fyodor believed that Dazai had perished. Contrary to this belief, Dazai was actually feigning his death.

It should be noted that the manga has not yet depicted this particular event. As a result, there remains a possibility that Mangaka Kafka Asagiri might alter the storyline in the future. However, at present, this is the sole official account regarding Dazai's survival.

After escaping from Meursault, Fyodor planned to leave the prison using a helicopter. However, his hand had been injured by Dazai earlier, preventing him from piloting the helicopter himself. As a result, he enlisted one of his vampires to take on the task.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Aya successfully removed the sword from Bram, allowing him to regain his powers as Count Dracula. Witnessing this, Edogawa Ranpo instructed Bram to kill Fyodor by utilizing one of his vampires who was in close proximity to him. Coincidentally, this vampire was the one piloting the helicopter. The vampire cruelly stabbed Fyodor, then directed the helicopter towards a building, causing a massive explosion.
