Red Dead Redemption has been released on PS4, PS5 with backward compatibility, and the Nintendo Switch. Xbox players can still purchase the Xbox 360 backward compatible version. Despite the absence of a PC release, players can now relive John Marston's journey through New Austin on their preferred console.

Upon starting the game, both returning and new players may be surprised to see John Marston wielding gleaming golden weapons. This has received some backlash from fans who argue that it disrupts the immersive story mode. However, players can choose to toggle these weapons on or off depending on the version of Red Dead Redemption they are playing.

DLC Golden Guns

Players who have the Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition or the re-release should receive the golden guns as part of the DLC. In the original version of the game, these guns were offered in a distinct Golden Guns Weapon Pack. This DLC will apply a golden appearance to all weapons, except thrown weapons and John Marston's hunting knife.

If the player has the more recent iterations of Red Dead Redemption or the Golden Guns Weapon Pack installed, simply access the start menu. Proceed to click on options, then navigate to the config menu. Locate the golden guns option and switch it on or off.

The initial pre-order perk enhances John Marston's Cattleman Revolver and Repeater Carbine, turning them into golden variants. Although these weapons do not differ in terms of damage, they do boost the amount of fame acquired when utilized.

Rockstar has granted access to these weapons for all players, ensuring that even those using older versions of the game will have them from the beginning. To deactivate these guns, players must enter a specific code. It is important to remember that these codes do not interfere with achievements, unlike other cheat codes, but they must be entered each time the game is reloaded as they do not save automatically.

To disable the Golden Guns on Xbox, hold the following button combination for 5 seconds: RB + LB + D-pad Left + B + Y.

To deactivate Golden Guns on PS3, press and hold the following buttons for 5 seconds: R1, L1, left button on the D-pad, Circle, and Triangle.

To activate Golden Guns on Xbox, press and hold the following buttons for 5 seconds: RB, LB, D-pad Left, A, and X.
