Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's post-launch plans are still unclear, although leaks suggest that the game will bring back classic Call of Duty titles through seasonal content.
The upcoming season of Modern Warfare 3 is speculated to showcase weapons from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, namely the BAL27, MORS, and EM1. Should the leak prove accurate, enthusiasts can also anticipate the incorporation of weaponry from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, including the M8A1, SMR, LSAT, MSMC, along with the possibility of remastered maps like Standoff, Nuketown 2025, and Hijacked.
The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is just a few weeks away, and Sledgehammer has been consistently sharing new information with fans leading up to the game's launch on November 10. Recently, fans were given the opportunity to play the game for the first time during two beta periods, which has generated positive feedback. However, the plans for post-launch content are still uncertain.
Since the game was revealed in August, Sledgehammer has mentioned their intentions for post-launch content, including the addition of new 6v6 maps and potentially new game modes. Despite these comments, no concrete plans have been finalized. Nevertheless, there have been various leaks and rumors circulating online, with some suggesting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may make an appearance in some capacity within Modern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Could Bring Black Ops 2 Back in a Big Way
According to recent leaks, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to reintroduce classic Call of Duty titles through post-launch seasonal content. The first season will feature Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer's initial independent project for the franchise in 2014. If the leak is accurate, this season will bring back popular Advanced Warfare weapons such as the BAL27, MORS, and EM1.
In addition to the inclusion of 16 remastered MW2 maps and the return of iconic characters in the campaign mode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is shaping up to be a grand celebration of the franchise's extensive history. This leak gains some credibility as the game pays homage to beloved entries like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which is considered by many fans as one of the series' finest installments.
The leaked information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's themed Seasons didn't provide many specifics, but it did mention that some classic weapons would be added to the game. If Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were to be featured in one of these post-launch Seasons, players could expect to see weapons like the M8A1, SMR, LSAT, MSMC, and possibly even the Ballistic Knife. Despite Black Ops 2's futuristic setting in 2025, many of its weapons already fit in seamlessly with Modern Warfare 3's arsenal.
However, if Sledgehammer wanted to take things a step further with the rumored Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Season, they could also include remastered versions of popular maps. There are numerous iconic maps from Black Ops 2 to choose from, but ones like Standoff, Nuketown 2025, and Hijacked would undoubtedly excite fans. There is speculation that the upcoming Call of Duty installment set in 2025 will remaster all of Black Ops 2's maps, similar to what Modern Warfare 3 is doing with MW2. If this is true, then the potential Season featuring Black Ops 2 would only be a small glimpse of what's to come.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
