Unlocking the Secrets of Layers of Fear (2023): Master the Art of Calling for Help and Conquer the Perfect Storm and It Was Worth A Try Achievements

Players will find themselves navigating the decrepit corridors of Layers of Fear (2023), immersing themselves in the eerie settings that torment the various protagonists' mental states. Throughout the game, there are select instances where players can utilize communication devices to reach out for assistance. By doing so, they unlock two achievements/trophies that may otherwise go unnoticed during an initial playthrough of Layers of Fear (2023).

The Painter's Story - It was worth a try Achievement

In order to unlock the "It was worth a try" trophy, players must progress through the Painter's Story until they reach a point where they have access to a phone that can be dialed. Throughout the story, there are instances where a phone can be heard ringing in the distance or briefly answered by the painter, but it cannot be interacted with. Players need to reach the fifth iteration of the magnum opus, which resembles a skeleton or ghost. Once the fifth iteration is revealed, players will proceed to the Painter's study.

Upon entering the room, a phone will start ringing. After interacting with the book on the bookcase between the windows, the bookcase will move away from the wall, revealing a rotary phone. Players must search for a hidden code in the room and dial it on the phone to progress further. However, before doing so, they should take a moment to interact with the phone and dial 9-1-1 on the rotary dial. Although the call will not go through, players will soon receive the 'It was worth a try' achievement.

The Actor's Story - The Perfect Storm Achievement

Players will have the opportunity to send a distress signal via Morse code in the first chapter of the Actor's Story, earning them the 'The Perfect Storm' trophy. The chapter begins with players exploring the different levels of the ship, gradually delving deeper and uncovering details about the Actor and his enigmatic director. Upon reaching the bottom deck and acquiring the cane whisper item, players will discover a communications room with a Morse code transmitter and a headset.

To complete the task, players must input five rapid signals, followed by five slow signals, and then another five rapid signals using the transmitter. Each input will generate a noise, and the transmitter will produce a pattern of five dots, five dashes, and five dots, which translates to S.O.S. in Morse code. Although there will be no response, players will be rewarded with the 'The Perfect Storm' achievement.
