In order to protect Gabriel, Aziraphale and Crowley go to great lengths to conceal his whereabouts. Simultaneously, Aziraphale takes it upon himself to unravel the truth behind Gabriel's disappearance, while Crowley endeavors to divert attention from the extraordinary miracle they concocted for Gabriel by orchestrating a serendipitous encounter between Nina, the proprietor of a coffee shop, and Maggie, the proprietor of a record store. Crowley & Aziraphale’s Romance Explained – Will They Get Back Together?
In the inaugural scene of Good Omens season 2, it becomes evident that Aziraphale and Crowley's connection spans back to the dawn of existence. When Crowley still resided as an angel, he crossed paths with Aziraphale during the construction of galaxies. Since then, these unlikely companions have repeatedly encountered each other throughout various moments in history, forging a formidable bond, despite their frequent disagreements on how to approach certain circumstances. By delving into their relationship, Good Omens season 2 offers glimpses into their shared escapades at different junctures in time.
These flashbacks illuminated the deep bond between Aziraphale and Crowley, showcasing that Crowley was not entirely malevolent. Aziraphale is the solitary being aware of Crowley's inherent goodness, but he must maintain his facade as a demon. Aziraphale brings out Crowley's best qualities, while Crowley offers Aziraphale a broader perspective, creating a symbiotic relationship. The first season of Good Omens hinted at the romantic tension between Crowley and Aziraphale, and in the second season, the writers unabashedly embraced it, fulfilling the audience's desires.
In the final episode of Good Omens season 2, Maggie and Nina seek out Aziraphale and Crowley at the bookshop for a conversation. While Aziraphale departs to speak with the Metatron, Crowley remains behind. Maggie and Nina assert that the core issue between Crowley and Aziraphale is their inability to communicate their emotions, urging them to be completely honest with each other. This revelation prompts Crowley to confront his genuine feelings for Aziraphale. Despite struggling to articulate his emotions, he eventually bares his soul and expresses his desire to remain on Earth with Aziraphale. However, at that very moment, Aziraphale is offered the esteemed position of Supreme Archangel in Heaven, with the opportunity to bring Crowley along and transform him into an angel once again.
Aziraphale Is The Supreme Archangel Of Heaven – What It Means For Good Omens S3
Rather than accepting the invitation to ascend to Heaven, Crowley adamantly refused and made an earnest attempt to persuade Aziraphale to stay behind. In a tender moment, he kissed the angel, expressing his deep emotional dependency on him. Aziraphale, in turn, forgave Crowley for his past misdeeds, but Crowley, seemingly dismissive, coldly responded with a curt “don’t bother” before departing from the cherished bookshop.
The conclusion of Good Omens season 2 witnessed Aziraphale's return to Heaven alongside the Metatron, while Crowley remained firmly rooted on Earth. Crowley observed Aziraphale enter the elevator bound for Heaven before driving away, symbolizing a clear separation between them. With each embarking on their own respective paths, Aziraphale attaining a distinguished position within the celestial realm, it appears unlikely that they will reunite in the near future. Nonetheless, there remains a glimmer of hope that they may once again join forces and, with any luck, discover a means to make their relationship flourish.
The leaders of Heaven and Hell, Gabriel and Beelzebub (now portrayed by Shelley Conn), underwent a significant upheaval in Good Omens season 2. Surprisingly, their encounters on Earth to deliberated over the course of Armageddon #2 led to an unexpected love blossoming between them. Consequently, this unconventional romance branded them as traitors in both Heaven and Hell. Undeterred, Gabriel and Beelzebub chose to remain together, resulting in vacancies within the highest echelons of both realms. Archangels Michael, Uriel, and Saraqael readied themselves to punish Aziraphale by eradicating him from the Book of Life, only to be interrupted by the arrival of the Metatron in human form, who promptly sent the archangels back to Heaven.
The Metatron and Aziraphale headed to a nearby restaurant for a conversation. There, the Metatron extended an offer to Aziraphale, suggesting him as the new supreme archangel of Heaven following Gabriel's departure. Explaining that Aziraphale's Earthly experience and empathetic nature make him the ideal choice, the Metatron emphasized the freedom and autonomy that come with the title. Furthermore, the Metatron revealed that if Aziraphale opted to continue working with Crowley, he would have the authority to restore Crowley's angelic status. With Aziraphale assuming the role of supreme archangel, he will now possess influence over the archangels and Heaven's endeavors on Earth in the upcoming season 3 of Good Omens. This is particularly intriguing considering Heaven's forthcoming significant undertaking. Recognizing Aziraphale's profound knowledge of Earth, the Metatron asserted that he is the perfect angel for the imminent Second Coming.
Aziraphale’s Second Coming Project Explained
As mentioned earlier, Aziraphale was informed by Metatron that Heaven's next significant event is not another Armageddon, but rather the Second Coming. The Second Coming, also referred to as the Second Advent or the Parousia, is a belief held by Christians, Muslims, and Baha'is that Jesus will return after his ascension to heaven. This belief is based on messianic prophecies, and interpretations of the Second Coming vary within Christianity, with numerous specific dates being proposed. In terms of religious themes, the inclusion of the Second Coming in Good Omens season 3 aligns with the previous season's focus on the arrival of the Antichrist and the resulting apocalypse.
Although Good Omens season 2 had a lesser emphasis on religious themes, there were flashbacks involving Aziraphale and Crowley that related to biblical stories, such as the story of Job. Therefore, it is logical for season 3 to revisit these religious themes. Having already encountered the Antichrist in the Good Omens universe, it is now time for a significant event from the perspective of Heaven, which makes the Second Coming an ideal choice.
Is Crowley Going To Be An Angel Again?
Why Gabriel’s Memories Were Erased In Good Omens Season 2
Crowley, much like Satan himself, is a fallen angel in Good Omens season 2. It is implied that he was expelled from Heaven for questioning its plans and designs too much. However, Crowley does not seem bothered by his transition from angel to demon. Instead, he has learned to embrace and enjoy the perks and freedom that come with his new identity. He has made it clear to Aziraphale that he has no desire to return to being an angel; instead, he prefers to remain on Earth. Crowley's love for Aziraphale is not strong enough to motivate him to become an angel again, indicating that he is unlikely to give up being a demon.
The enigma that dominated Good Omens season 2 was the perplexing fate of Gabriel and his mysterious memory loss. In the climactic episode, Crowley made a celestial visit to Heaven to uncover Gabriel's records, unveiling the truth behind his baffling situation. As the archangels and the Metatron convened, Michael disclosed their intentions for a second Armageddon and the dawning of eternal existence. However, Gabriel dissented, refusing to endorse their plans for Heaven's ultimate triumph on Earth. Without providing any explanation for his dissent, Gabriel found himself summoned before a trial.
Michael and the others made the decision to demote Gabriel, as sending him to Hell again would reflect poorly on Heaven. They removed him from his position and erased his memories as Gabriel. Gabriel agreed to these terms, but requested some time to tidy up his workspace. He was given a box, which happened to be the same one he used to cover himself when he arrived at the bookshop. Despite not actually having a desk, Gabriel needed this time to retain all his memories, which were stored within a fly acting as a container. However, Gabriel was one step ahead of the archangels, as he managed to preserve his memories instead of letting them be erased. This was mainly because of his romance with Beelzebub, which gave him the most compelling reason to hold on to his memories.
Gabriel & Beelzebub’s Unexpected Romance Explained
In Good Omens season 2, an unexpected romance blossomed between Heaven's Gabriel and Hell's Beelzebub. Gabriel's memories were restored thanks to a fly, uncovering his secret meetings with Beelzebub on Earth. They found Earth to be a safe and neutral ground for discussing important matters. During their initial encounters, Gabriel and Beelzebub mutually agreed not to proceed with another Armageddon. As they met for the second time, they began to develop a bond and discovered a shared love for the song "Everyday" by Buddy Holly, which became their symbolic anthem.
Their third encounter occurred in Edinburgh, where they paid a visit to the statue of Gabriel in a cemetery before heading to The Resurrectionist for drinks. In a gesture of reciprocity, Gabriel modified the pub's jukebox to exclusively play “Everyday”. As a token of appreciation, Beelzebub presented Gabriel with a fly enclosed within a matchbox. This act of generosity intensified their mutual attraction. Fast forward to the present, Gabriel confessed to Beelzebub his intention to reunite with her after being demoted, but unfortunately forgot. However, they were able to rekindle their relationship.
Upon learning about the unexpected union, Shax labeled Beelzebub a traitor, which displeased the archangels. In response, Beelzebub asserted their equal cooperation and prioritization of something more significant than picking sides. Shax sought to bring them before Satan for punishment, whereas Michael advocated for celestial retribution. Nevertheless, Gabriel and Beelzebub only desired to be together. Crowley proposed a solution: they would all relocate to Alpha Centauri, on the condition that Gabriel and Beelzebub never returned. United in their decision, Beelzebub and Gabriel held hands and vanished, serenading each other with “Everyday” as they disappeared.
What Happens To Nina & Maggie In Good Omens' Season 2 Finale
Maggie and Nina found themselves entangled in Aziraphale and Crowley's chaos when they attempted to conceal the miracle they performed to protect Gabriel. Their plan was to foster a romantic connection between Aziraphale and Crowley. However, Nina was trapped in a toxic relationship that eventually came to an end, while Maggie consistently demonstrated her deep care for Nina. Despite Crowley and Aziraphale's efforts, Maggie and Nina concluded that they couldn't be together at the moment. This was primarily due to Nina's recent breakup, but they also realized the importance of Aziraphale and Crowley openly addressing their own feelings.
Shax's New Role In Hell Explained
After Crowley earned the title of traitor and Hell decided to abandon him on Earth, a new representative was dispatched by Hell: Shax. Upon discovering that Aziraphale and Crowley had aided Gabriel, Shax opted to lead a legion of demons in an assault on the bookshop. However, their efforts were in vain as Aziraphale thwarted them by hurling his halo. As Beelzebub departed with Gabriel, he informed Shax that she could potentially become the new Duke of Hell, a prospect that greatly appealed to her. Although unconfirmed in the conclusion of Good Omens season 2, it is widely assumed that Shax will succeed Beelzebub in Hell, thus assuming authority over the infernal realm.
Will Good Omens Season 3 Happen?
Good Omens season 2's finale has set the stage for a potential third season. Aziraphale now leads Heaven, preparing for the Second Coming, while Shax has taken control of Hell. Muriel is in charge of Aziraphel's bookshop, and Crowley remains on Earth, heartbroken. Although Good Omens has not yet been renewed for a third season, Neil Gaiman already has an idea of what it would be about. Gaiman, currently participating in a strike with the WGA, expressed his hope for a third season but acknowledged that the announcement may be delayed due to the strikes.
