Highlights
Ergo Fragments can be sold for the same amount of Ergo as popping them individually, making it a convenient way to use up different types of Ergo Fragments.
Players have the option to sell Attribute Resistance Ampoules and Sawtoothed Wheels for additional Ergo if they have surplus amounts in their inventory. Star Fragments can also be sold for a considerable amount of Ergo, offering a chance to earn extra currency if players decide not to use AI summons called Specters or have already gained access to the Gold Coin Tree.
In Lies of P, Ergo holds great significance as players require a substantial amount of it to enhance their Pinocchio. The primary method of acquiring Ergo is through combat, but players can also obtain it by selling items. However, it is important to note that selling items should typically be used to supplement Ergo needs rather than rely on it as the main source, particularly as the game progresses.
Selling items in Soulslike games is not usually a lucrative practice, but in Lies of P, it is relatively more favorable. Hence, let's explore some of the most valuable items that players are unlikely to need and can sell to NPCs.
8 Ergo Fragments
First and foremost, players can sell Ergo to generate more Ergo, which may seem redundant. Essentially, this provides players with a means to "utilize" all their various types of Ergo Fragments (excluding Rare Ergo) without the need to navigate through menus or individually pop each one. Interestingly, Ergo Fragments can be sold for the exact same amount of Ergo that players would receive from popping them. Once again, this is simply a matter of convenience, but one that is undeniably worth being aware of and taking advantage of.
7 Rare Ergo
Rare Ergo Fragments are distinct from their regular counterparts, a realization that unfortunately dawns upon many new Soulslike players only after mistakenly utilizing one. Essentially, this category is specifically designated for boss souls, which players can eventually convert into specialized weaponry. In all honesty, these items should have been differently labeled or further separated from the regular Ergo Fragments, as numerous individuals have inadvertently employed them prematurely.
However, for players in possession of Alidoro the Treasure Hunter at Hotel Krat who have made the deliberate choice to disregard the value of the Amulet or Weapon acquired through trading the Ergo 'soul', it becomes advantageous to sell the Rare Ergo in this particular scenario.
6 Attribute Resistance Ampuoles
Some enemies in the game consistently drop certain items that players will quickly notice. Items such as Sawtoothed Wheels and Ampuloes (both Attribute and Special Purification Ampuloes) are especially common and can be found scattered on the ground at almost every turn.
And, while Attribute Resistance Ampuoles can be quite helpful against environmental hazards or enemies that use various elements like Shock, Acid, or Fire, players won't require a large quantity of them or the Purification Ampuoles. Therefore, once players realize they have accumulated 10+ Attribute Purification or Attribute Resistance Ampuloes in their storage, it might be wise to consider selling some extras for a little added Ergo bonus. However, it is advisable to only sell a couple, as it is often ironic that players who sell their entire stockpile almost always come across situations shortly after where these items are severely needed.
5 Sawtoothed Wheels
In Lies of P, players can find a variety of throwable items such as Cluster Grenades, Thermite Canisters, and Shot Puts. Each of these throwables serves a specific purpose. However, the ubiquitous Sawtoothed Wheels, commonly available from Polendina, lack the same usefulness.
They're intended to serve the same purpose as the Pebbles in Bloodborne, but due to the various long-range attack options available to players in Lies of P, they appear to be the least dependable choice. However, there are certain items later in the game (like the pustules that create a fog of Decay) that can even be destroyed from a distance by wielding a Sawtoothed Wheel. Therefore, if players plan on selling these items to earn some additional Ergo, it is advisable not to sell every single one of them.
4 Star Fragments
In Lies of P, Specters are AI summons that players can evoke by using the fiery blue brazier located just outside of most boss arenas. To do so, however, players must expend a Star Fragment for each summons. However, for players who consider summoning to be "taking the easy way out" (typically experienced Soulslike players), it may be more beneficial to sell their Star Fragments and earn extra Ergo.
These items are actually sold for a considerable amount of Ergo, and players will have easily acquired 30+ Fragments by the time they unlock the Gold Coin Tree. However, it may be beneficial to keep a few Fragments on hand in case players encounter a boss they decide to use the Specter against. Additionally, for players who have sold all their Star Fragments but suddenly find themselves needing to summon a Specter to defeat a specific boss (such as the King of Puppets), the NPC Giangio offers the option of trading Star Fragments for Gold Coin Fruit. Thus, there are still alternatives available.
3 Gemini's Emergency Protection & Iron Protection
Lies of P features several items with the term 'temporary' or 'temporarily' in their descriptions. However, the duration of this temporary effect is not clearly specified. For instance, both Gemini's Emergency Protection and Gemini's Iron Protection mention temporary prevention of Ergo Loss upon death, but the actual duration remains unknown. Based on extensive testing, these effects seem to last for at least 2+ minutes, which is sufficient to cover a significant portion of a boss battle.

However, these items are only used by a small percentage of the player base. Therefore, if players find themselves unknowingly accumulating a large number of these items, it is advisable to sell a few.
1 Gold Coin Fruit
Finally, it's interesting to note that the very item players use to acquire more Star Fragments can also be sold to Merchants for additional Ergo. These are called Gold Coin Fruits and are only recognizable to those who have progressed past the Black Rabbit Brotherhood boss battle. Once players unlock the Gold Coin Tree and obtain these fruits, they will discover that it is a peculiar mechanic within the game Lies of P.
Interestingly, many players have compared this particular aspect of the game to a feature found in mobile games rather than a Soulslike game. This is because players need to wait in real-time for more Coin Fruits to grow. However, these fruits only have specific uses, such as in a side quest involving Giangio and at the Saintess of Mercy Statue. Therefore, if players have already given the Coins to Red Fox, purchased everything they desired from Giangio, and are satisfied with their overall character progression (including New Game+), it is generally acceptable to sell some Gold Coin Fruits for extra Ergo.
Lies of Pis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
