Discover the art of farming Dark Wood
With a multitude of vibrant biomes, Disney Dreamlight Valley presents a treasure trove of materials waiting to be collected. These valuable resources serve as the building blocks for crafting, recipe creation, and quest completion. Immerse yourself in the enchanting wilderness of the Village as you forage and gather, making farming Dark Wood an essential aspect of the Disney Dreamlight Valley adventure.
What is Foraging in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Wood plays a vital role in Disney Dreamlight Valley as an incredibly valuable resource. It is extensively used for various quests and recipes, often requiring large quantities. Additionally, wood is a crucial component in crafting the game's storage chests. The ones with the highest storage capacity necessitate a significant amount of the more elusive wood varieties, such as Dry Wood and Dark Wood. This comprehensive guide provides players with all the essential information they need to know about effectively farming wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
The majority of the ingredients and materials in Disney Dreamlight Valley are acquired using the player's Royal Tools. Planting seeds and supporting their growth is made possible with the Royal Shovel and Royal Watering Can. Additionally, the Royal Fishing Rod enables players to capture fish from rivers, ponds, and the open sea.
However, not all items require the use of these tools to obtain. In Dreamlight Valley, the biomes contain a variety of materials that naturally spawn in the wild and can be collected through Foraging. Foraging involves interacting with these items to gather materials. When foraging for wild-grown edible ingredients such as mushrooms, herbs, and fruit, there is a chance for additional drops to spawn if the player is accompanied by a companion with the Foraging role.
However, flowers and wood sticks are also gathered in the same way but do not receive any benefits from the companion bonus, and no additional items can spawn when foraged. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly visit each biome to collect the daily allotment of these items.
How Does Wood Spawning Work?
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, there are four types of wood that naturally appear: Softwood, Hardwood, Drywood, and Dark Wood. Each biome produces specific types of wood on a daily basis for players to collect. To collect wood, simply approach the item on the ground and press the Interact key; no additional tools are needed.
While each type of wood only spawns from trees in its respective biome, the specific trees placed in that area do not matter. Any type of tree will cause the corresponding wood to drop, except for fruit trees, which do not produce wood. Each biome has a daily maximum limit for the amount of each wood type that will spawn, so there is no need for players to excessively plant trees in any biome.
Where to Farm All Different Types of Wood
Each of the four types of wood will spawn only in specific biomes. Here’s where players can find each type of wood in Disney Dreamlight Valley:
Material | Biomes |
---|---|
Softwood |

Hardwood |

Dry Wood |

Dark Wood |

Three of the four types of wood can be obtained through additional means beyond foraging.
Kristoff's Stall will occasionally stock Softwood, Hardwood, or Dry Wood in limited quantities.
In the Forest of Valor, players can utilize the improved Royal Shovel to effectively eliminate tree stumps and receive wood as a reward. Small Tree Stumps will provide 3 Softwood, while Large Tree Stumps will yield 4 Softwood and 2 Hardwood. Regrettably, the only way to acquire Dark Wood is through foraging specifically in the Forgotten Lands biome.
How to Optimize Wood Farming
Wood will randomly appear near trees placed in a biome, as long as there is empty space surrounding the tree. It will not appear in areas already occupied by other items, like rocks or existing wood. Additionally, wood will not appear near fruit-bearing trees.
However, wood can still appear on tiles with outdoor flooring, such as paths and roads. Players can utilize this by placing flooring around the tree, preventing herbs or flowers from appearing but still allowing wood to be collected.
To maximize the wood output of each tree, it is important to provide a surrounding grid of 2 squares of free space, regardless of the tree's size. For instance, a 2x2 tree necessitates a 4x4 area with the tree situated in the center. Similarly, a 4x4 tree would require an 8x8 space, and so on.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s biomes boast a diverse array of trees, ranging from petite and unassuming specimens in the Plaza to colossal, sprawling species found in the Forgotten Lands. Despite their beauty and uniqueness, some of these trees present challenges when it comes to wood farming. This is particularly true for Dark Wood, an exclusive feature of the Forgotten Lands. This exceptionally shadowy biome is characterized by its extensive cover of towering trees.
How to Farm Dark Wood
To efficiently gather the highly sought-after Dark Wood from the Forgotten Lands, players should follow this strategy. Begin by eliminating all trees in the biome and replacing them with a small arrangement of smaller trees, such as the Plaza Tree, which only requires a 2x2 grid of space. For players exclusively focused on farming Dark Wood, it is recommended to place only 2 trees and collect solely the Dark Wood that spawns, disregarding any Dry Wood on the ground. This approach guarantees that Dark Wood will continue to spawn after the maximum amount of Dry Wood has been generated. For optimal results, remember to remove all other trees in the biome.
Regrettably, this will lead to a notable alteration in the atmosphere and appearance of the biome, hence it should be contemplated only if it does not disturb the player. To preserve the organic ambiance of each biome, it is necessary to ensure that the vicinity of the untamed trees remains obstacle-free. This measure aids in preventing any complications that may impact the growth of wood. Disney Dreamlight Valley can now be enjoyed on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
