Roleplaying takes center stage in games like Baldur's Gate 3, where players will encounter various combat scenarios throughout a long campaign. However, the main purpose of these battles and skill checks is to weave a compelling story. If gamers don't feel connected to the narrative, the entire game loses its appeal.
This is why even small details, such as customization, play a significant role. In Baldur's Gate 3, it is crucial for players to feel a sense of belonging with their designed characters. A part of this involves allowing players to personalize their character's clothing and armor to their exact preferences. Thanks to the ability to use dyes, players can truly tailor their appearance to cater to their unique tastes.
How To Change Armor & Clothing Colors
Acquire a dye from either vendors, quest rewards, or loot.
Select the desired dye color and choose Combine (character name here).
In the box opposite the dye, select the piece of clothing or armor that players want to have dyed.
Select the 'Combine' button.
It is important to mention that this process is not permanent. If players desire a different color, they can easily achieve it by applying a new dye. In the game, there is an official item called Dye Remover which can be obtained by highlighting objects or purchasing it from selected vendors.
The player's character is not the only one involved in this process. You can also hire a new party member and enhance their appearance by using a variety of dye colors. If a spellcaster or warrior has a specific theme such as poison or divine damage, they may want to match all their pieces with colors like green or gold.
Although a complete transmog system has not been implemented in the game, this system works quite well. It still allows you to change clothes and utilize the stats from armor while visually appearing in camp clothing.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
