Jurassic Park enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to relive the nostalgia of two classic games from the franchise with the release of Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection. This collection brings together two original games from the 90s and although they may not be considered the top retro games of the era, they have undeniably made a lasting impact on those who played them during their heyday.
Directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, the first Jurassic Park film is widely regarded as one of the most significant movies of the 90s and indisputably the best in the Jurassic Park series. Not only did the film achieve tremendous cultural success, but it also pushed boundaries in technological advancements, particularly in the field of CGI. As Jurassic Park celebrates its 30th anniversary, gamers now have the chance to reminisce about the franchise's early gaming ventures by indulging in these games on modern gaming platforms.
Limited Run Games has announced the Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection. This collection will bring classic Jurassic Park games to modern platforms, including Jurassic Park for NES, Game Boy, and SNES, as well as Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues for Game Boy and SNES. These releases will come with new features, such as save states, in-game maps, and other improvements to enhance the gaming experience.
Pre-orders for physical editions of the Jurassic Park collection will be available from September 1 to October 15. The Standard Edition will be priced at $29.99, while the Classic Edition, which includes a steelbook and packaging inspired by the original VHS of the movie, will cost $64.99. For collectors, there is also the option of the Prehistoric Edition, priced at $174.99. This edition includes everything from the classic version, along with a replica of Dr. Alan Grant's ID card from the game, a physical CD of the soundtrack, and mini-replicas of the original game cartridges.
The remastered versions of these classic games and the celebration of the franchise's 30th anniversary coincide with the release of the Jurassic World Dominion movie, which concluded the latest trilogy in the series. Jurassic World Dominion received mixed reviews, as it divided opinions and was not as successful as its predecessor. Consequently, this presents an ideal opportunity for fans to indulge in nostalgia with these timeless games, which draw inspiration from the first two movies.
The Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection is slated for release in late 2023 and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
