EA Motive's successful remake of Dead Space showcases its ability to meet expectations and deliver a game with great graphics and gameplay mechanics.
The linear progression and story-driven level design showcased in Dead Space could serve as a source of inspiration for creating a linear Iron Man game with a similar focus on narrative. Incorporating elements such as armor and weapon advancement, collectible skins, and dynamic flight mechanics adds to the potential for an exhilarating and immersive Iron Man gaming experience.
After impressing gamers with the Dead Space remake, EA Motive has demonstrated its ability to create an Iron Man game that lives up to expectations, especially in comparison to the highly acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man 2. EA Motive successfully revamped the 2008 survival horror, enhancing its graphics and gameplay mechanics while subtly improving the linear story set aboard the USG Ishimura. Given the success of the game's linear progression and story-driven level design, despite the dominance of open-world mechanics in the gaming industry, there is speculation about how a linear Iron Man game would be received.
The Dead Space remake brought about several changes, utilizing the Frostbite Engine and rebuilding all its systems from scratch to ensure the game remained relevant in the current video game landscape. The developer expanded on the USG Ishimura's settings, maintaining the traditional eerie lighting and atmospheric elements while introducing subtle additions, such as new textures. These haunting elements within the spaceship perfectly set the stage for Dead Space's narrative, immersing players in the role of an Engineer on a mission for survival as they unravel the mysteries of the Ishimura. With the official confirmation of EA Motive's Iron Man game in development, it is possible that it will adopt a similar approach.
A Linear Approach to Iron Man Would Be a Refreshing Experience
EA Motive’s Iron Man aims to achieve the same level of immersive gameplay as Dead Space. With the utilization of Unreal Engine 5, the developer has the opportunity to create an unparalleled gaming experience. Similar to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, which received high acclaim for its compelling plot and engaging dialogue choices and levels, Iron Man can adopt these elements. Tony Stark could find himself trapped in expansive facilities, reminiscent of the levels seen in popular games like USG Ishimura and Guardians of the Galaxy. These facilities would offer an open-ended series of maps, providing players with the chance to backtrack and unlock collectibles and rewards.
To enhance the storytelling aspect, a linear approach could be taken, focusing on Iron Man's origin story. This is a facet that hasn't been explored extensively in movies or comics. Players would have the opportunity to witness Tony Stark's journey from a troubled young genius to a charismatic playboy, and ultimately to the hero he is destined to become. The earlier parts of his life could be portrayed through short prologues, lending depth to Motive's portrayal of this iconic hero.
Consequently, introducing armor progression would greatly enhance the game. Drawing inspiration from Dead Space's gradual upgrade system for Isaac's armor, players would witness Tony's evolution from the Mark One armor to his more recent nanotech suit, reminiscent of the iconic Iron Man design. The weapons progression could follow a linear path as well, allowing Tony to unlock new weapons and upgrade previously acquired ones. Moreover, he would have the ability to enhance all attributes and skills through suit upgrades.
Adding to the game's appeal, players could collect various Iron Man skins, similar to how Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man allows Peter and Miles to don multiple suits. Motive's expertise in flying mechanics, showcased in the fast-paced battles of Star Wars: Squadrons and the enhanced zero-G gameplay of Dead Space, would undoubtedly shine through in the Iron Man game. Known for creating exhilarating in-game flight mechanics, Motive understands the importance of capturing the essence of a dynamic character like Iron Man.
Tony can be taken to various locations, such as the streets or even outer space, to engage in thrilling aerial dog fights with his enemies while flying. This will provide an exciting gameplay experience for players. Additionally, the game can include specific in-game modes or levels that require the use of Iron Man's flight capabilities to solve puzzles and progress through challenging environments. The game's direction has not been finalized as it is still in the pre-production phase. However, the involvement of Olivier Proulx, who has previously worked on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, makes it highly likely that a linear Iron Man game is in the works. Currently, Iron Man is being developed.
