Roguelike and Roguelite games are incredibly popular in the industry for good reason. They offer a core gameplay loop that keeps players engaged and provide a wealth of enjoyable content. These games strike the right balance by keeping each run short enough to play for 15 minutes, or if desired, long enough to play for hours. While Endless Dungeon's rank among other roguelite games is yet to be seen, fans should definitely keep an eye on this title.
Endless Dungeon combines the gameplay elements of roguelike games with Overwatch 2's Escort game mode. It may sound unconventional, but the concept works incredibly well. In this roguelite title, each run challenges players to guide their Crystal Bot to the end of the floor. Along the way, players can explore and open doors to discover and gather resources like Food, Industry, and Science. However, opening doors also creates new paths for monsters to invade. The structure of Endless Dungeon may be simple, but it offers a great deal of entertainment. Game Rant had the opportunity to play a brief demo at the Sega Summer Showcase in NYC, and we were left with the same feeling many players experience when they just can't resist another "One More Run."
Exploring through a succession of doors may seem unconventional, yet it proves to be highly effective. By opening doors, players can obtain resources which they can then utilize to construct defenses, turrets, upgrades, and other necessary elements. This allows them to venture forth with the ultimate objective of safely escorting the Crystal Bot. At various points, such as when certain doors are opened or research tasks are completed, or even at random intervals, enemy waves will be triggered, necessitating a retreat to the Crystal Bot's location in order to defend it. Once the threat is thwarted, players resume their expedition to uncover the optimal path, guiding their Crystal Bot towards it, and progressing to the subsequent phase.
