Contrary to popular belief, opting for a knife instead of a gun in a Cyberpunk 2077 gunfight can be a highly effective strategy for skilled players. Beyond its ability to inflict stabbing wounds, a knife can also be utilized as a projectile weapon. The thrill of propelling a knife straight into an enemy's eye socket is supremely satisfying in this game, prompting players to develop specialized builds tailored to this playstyle.
In Cyberpunk 2077's significant 2.0 update, a new skill line was introduced within the Cool tree, designed specifically for throwing blades. The following build concentrates on maximizing the potential of these new perks, in conjunction with the revamped cyberware system, to construct a throwing knife build capable of triumphing over even the most challenging difficulty mode.

When leveling up, players should initially focus on investing a significant amount of points into the Cool attribute. Afterwards, they can shift their attention towards Technical Ability and Reflexes. It is recommended to allocate perk points towards the skill line related to throwing weapons under the Cool tree in order to access the exciting additional bonuses introduced in the 2.0 update. Key skills to prioritize are:
- Scorpion Sting
Accelerated Poison Absorption
Parasite
Juggler
Finisher: Act of Mercy
Sleight of Hand
Dash
Air Dash
Tailwind
Style over Substance is only crucial if players prioritize stealth, but there are numerous other sources of critical chance to compensate for it. The perks that should be prioritized are Juggler and Sleight of Hand, with the former allowing for instant retrieval of thrown weapons after a critical kill, and the latter increasing critical damage after each Juggler activation. As players progress, they will accumulate enough points to acquire a variety of other desired perks.
For enhanced mobility and quicker recovery of blades after a missed throw, the dash skills are recommended. Alternatively, players who prefer a more resilient approach can focus on the Adrenaline Junkie skill in the Body tree, which enhances endurance in firefight situations.
Recommended Gear
Any high-tier knife or tomahawk will work wonders here. Equipping two or three throwing weapons is highly recommended to make missing a bit more forgiving.
The Headhunter knife, available at Pacifica's West Wind Estate melee vendor, is an excellent choice for increasing headshot damage against enemies struck by the knife. For even greater damage against tough adversaries like bosses, pair it with the Agaou tomahawk from the Phantom Liberty expansion.
If you prefer regular throwing weapons, the Javelin mod is worth considering. It enhances the weapon's armor-piercing abilities but slightly reduces its throwing range. However, this drawback is negligible since throwing weapons are most effective at close range. Equipping this mod poses minimal risk to players.
