What Is The Inverted Spear Of Heaven?

At first glance, the Inverted Spear of Heaven appears to be just another cursed tool. Its initial form is that of a short dagger, sporting a peculiarly shaped blade divided into two sections akin to a jitte, a weapon commonly employed by Edo Period police in Japan. However, closer inspection reveals that the blade once comprised three branches resembling a trident, with the current whereabouts of the third piece remaining a mystery. The instrument features a 'q'-shaped guard that protrudes outward from the handle, pointing towards the longer of the blade's two segments.

The spear extends into a black handle with a cylindrical shape, culminating in a circular link that allows it to be attached to metal chains, thus transforming it into a long-range melee weapon. Beyond its simplistic design, the most captivating aspect of this blade lies in its cursed technique, which is deeply rooted in a unique form of cursed energy from foreign origins. This energy possesses the ability to neutralize any cursed techniques it encounters. Consequently, when used against a target or a jujutsu technique, it instantaneously renders them ineffective, leaving them susceptible to physical attacks.

Many elements of the weapon's design and naming draw inspiration from the Ame no Sakahoko spear of Japanese mythology. Said spear holds significance with the twin deities Izanami and Izanagi, as well as Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu. According to certain legends, it is believed that the Ame no Sakahoko was struck into the summit of Mount Takachiho in Japan. The spear's existence dates as far back as the Nara Period, and there exists an anecdote of the renowned samurai Sakamoto Ryoma pulling it from the ground. Unfortunately, the original blade suffered partial destruction during a volcanic eruption in 1913, leading to its replacement with a replica.

Toji Fushiguro's Use Of The Weapon

During the Star Plasma Vessel Escort Mission, the nullification aspect of the weapon's function was showcased in the intense battle between Toji Fushiguro and Satoru Gojo. As they accompanied Riko Amanai to combine with Tengen, Satoru and Suguru Geto were faced with the challenge of Toji's "Sorcerer Killer" abilities. Toji skillfully concealed his spear within the Inventory Curse, which had the unique ability to shrink its own body and be swallowed. Consequently, Toji always had the Inverted Spear of Heaven at his disposal, along with his complete set of cursed tools and a horde of Fly Heads.

During his battle against Gojo Satoru, Toji skillfully utilized the Fly Heads to conceal his cursed energy and bypass Gojo's defenses. Taking advantage of his close proximity, he swiftly employed the Inverted Spear of Heaven to pierce Gojo's throat, rendering the formidable Special Grade Sorcerer temporarily incapacitated. Toji then proceeded to effortlessly finish him off, using the blade to mercilessly slice through Gojo's body and secure a clear victory. Later, when confronted by the Kuchisake-Onna curse unleashed by Suguru Geto, Toji successfully parried all of her scissor blades with the same blade, narrowly avoiding being harmed.

For his final showdown against Gojo, Toji cleverly affixed the weapon to the Chain of a Thousand Miles - an additional Special Grade Cursed Tool that possesses limitless extension capabilities when one end is concealed. To achieve this, Toji concealed the other end of the blade within the Inventory Curse. In this arrangement, the weapon resembled a kusarigama, which he wielded in an attempt to neutralize Gojo's Red and Blue techniques through its extended range.

Unfortunately for him, despite his attempt to conceal the blade's approach by launching a significant amount of rubble at Gojo, the awakened Limitless user used his clan's secret Hollow Purple technique, instantly ending the fight. Later in Jujutsu Kaisen, the spear became one of only two cursed tools capable of negating the effects of the Prison Realm in order to free Satoru Gojo. At the time, its whereabouts and status were unknown, as it was believed that Gojo had either destroyed or sealed it overseas beyond Tengen's barrier to prevent anyone from obtaining the only weapon that could potentially defeat him.
