The Mantis armor in Starfield is considered one of the best early-game equipment sets, but its visual appearance has received criticism from players.
A new Starfield mod gives players the opportunity to swap out the Mantis armor for a reskinned Guard armor and Starborn helmet, taking inspiration from Din Djarin's iconic look in The Mandalorian.
Although this mod currently only focuses on retextures, the upcoming release of official modding tools in 2024 promises the potential for more accurate renditions of Din Djarin's armor, adding a new level of immersion to the Starfield experience.
The Mantis is considered to be one of the top equipment sets in Starfield that players can encounter early on in the game. However, there is a mod that takes it a step further by transforming it into the iconic armor worn by Din Djarin from The Mandalorian. In Starfield, finding a powerful legendary weapon is crucial for player progress, but it is equally important to pair it with a well-crafted spacesuit and helmet. Therefore, players can obtain a reliable set of legendary armor by completing the Mantis questline, which not only rewards them with a legendary armor set of the same name, but also grants them the Razorleaf starship.
It must be acknowledged that the visual appearance of the Mantis armor may not appeal to everyone, as numerous Starfield players have expressed their dissatisfaction with its "scientist-meets-space-clown" aesthetic. It has consistently been labeled as one of the least attractive armor sets in the entire game, despite its cool concept. As a result, it comes as no surprise that among the multitude of Starfield mods already released to enhance the latest Bethesda title, there is one dedicated to improving the visuals of the Mantis armor.
The authorizedscott showcased the mod on the official Starfield subreddit, while Xaroph created the mod itself on Starfield Nexus with assistance from Acacyn for the retexture of the Starborn helmet. In essence, this Starfield mod replaces the Mantis set with a retextured Guard armor and a retextured Starborn helmet, resulting in a design directly inspired by Din Djarin from The Mandalorian. Additionally, the mod offers alternative outfits for those who prefer Boba Fett or Jango Fett, as well as darker leather options for Din Djarin's armor.
This is not the first Star Wars-themed content to surface for the latest Bethesda game, as Stormtroopers are already present in Starfield, patrolling the Settled Systems. Beyond the modding community, numerous fans have enthusiastically shared starship designs inspired by Star Wars, including iconic vessels like the Millennium Falcon and Slave One, as well as more ambitious projects such as the Star Destroyer.
Once the official modding tools are released for Starfield in early 2024, players can expect to see more accurate recreations of Din Djarin's armor. Currently, modders are limited to retextures, but with the new tools, they will have more freedom to enhance the game. Based on previous Bethesda releases, it is likely that Starfield will undergo significant improvements in the next year, either through mods or official content such as the upcoming Shattered Space DLC. Starfield is currently available for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
