Babs and Jess showcased their exceptional skills and proved themselves to be formidable fighters, taking the combat to a whole new level. Babs, renowned globally as one of the top jiu-jitsu masters, is a force to be reckoned with. Meanwhile, Jess's remarkable athleticism and unwavering passion added another dimension to their performance. It came as a pleasant surprise to discover that Babs is one of the greatest jiu-jitsu fighters in the world, a fact unknown to us when we hired him. In a previous season, a director who had a partner practicing jiu-jitsu couldn't even converse with him due to her nerves. It was akin to meeting the legendary Bruce Lee. In their world, Babs and Jess are highly esteemed figures. Almost everything you witness on screen was executed by their own hands, as they contributed about 99% of the action themselves.
Strange New Worlds' Dr. M'Benga & Nurse Chapel Fighting Klingons Explained
In the season 2 premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Dr. M'Benga and Nurse Chapel find themselves in a perilous situation that requires them to fight for their lives. Both members of the medical team aboard the USS Enterprise, they have already proven their resilience in the Klingon War featured in Star Trek: Discovery. Thanks to a mysterious super serum always kept by M'Benga, they were able to survive intense hand-to-hand combat with the Klingons. This serum temporarily enhances their strength and stamina, allowing Joseph and Christine to overpower their Klingon captors. Additionally, it is possible that the super drug enabled them to endure the harsh conditions of deep space long enough to be rescued by the Starship Enterprise.
Dr. M'Benga and Nurse Chapel's thrilling battles against the Klingons brought a fresh and captivating approach to hand-to-hand combat in Star Trek. This can be attributed to the impressive skills of Babs Olusanmokun, a jiu-jitsu master and renowned figure in the martial arts world. Alongside him, Jess Bush's talent in stunt work shines through, and it's clear that both actors thoroughly enjoyed the physical stage fighting in this episode. Babs Olusanmokun's martial arts expertise adds an element of danger to Dr. M'Benga, complementing the emotional trauma experienced by Joseph and Christine Chapel during the Klingon War. Fans can eagerly anticipate seeing more of Dr. M'Benga and Nurse Chapel's fighting abilities in season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is available for streaming on Paramount+ every Thursday.
