Google Pixel phones are often considered as the Android equivalent of iPhones. Being made by the creator of Android, Google, they are typically the first to receive new Android updates. Additionally, each year, they incorporate more exclusive hardware, such as the Google-designed Tensor chips introduced in the Pixel 6 of 2021. Now, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have arrived as the latest flagship models in the Pixel series.
These new smartphones from Google represent the pinnacle of their offerings thus far. Following Google's customary style, the phones have been subject to numerous leaks in the past few months, and even pre-release unboxing videos have surfaced in recent days. As a result, Google no longer bothers concealing its phones – we already knew they were launching and had an idea of their appearance. Google has now revealed all the details, including the release date, specifications, and pricing of these phones.
The Pixel 8 features a 6.2-inch display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro surpasses this with a larger 6.7-inch panel and an adaptable refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz depending on usage. Both phones are equipped with the powerful Google Tensor G3 SoC. In terms of RAM, the Pixel 8 offers 8GB while the Pixel 8 Pro provides an impressive 12GB. Additionally, both phones boast a 50MP primary camera. However, the Pixel 8 has a 12MP ultrawide auxiliary sensor, whereas the Pixel 8 Pro includes a 48MP ultrawide lens and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5X optical zoom.
The Pixel 8 offers a generous amount of storage with up to 256GB, while the Pixel 8 Pro takes it a step further with options of 512GB and even 1TB (restricted to the US market). Along with its impressive storage capacity, the Pixel 8 also boasts a powerful 4,575 mAh battery, while the Pixel 8 Pro will come equipped with a larger 5,050 mAh cell. Both devices are expected to deliver exceptional battery life.

Lastly, it should be noted that both phones are equipped with Android 14 as their default operating system. This makes them the first smartphones to incorporate Google's latest OS. Moreover, Pixel phones have a reputation for receiving significant Android updates over the years. To further demonstrate their commitment, Google has decided to provide OS updates and security patches for these phones for an impressive period of 7 years. As a result, Pixels now hold the title for the longest-lasting Android smartphones, a distinction briefly held by Samsung and OnePlus devices.
It is important to mention that the new Pixels come with a price increase compared to the previous year. The Pixel 8 has a starting price of $699, while the Pixel 8 Pro begins at $999. Pre-orders are currently being accepted on the Google Store.
