Highlights
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 retreads familiar Spider-Man storylines from theatrical interpretations, such as Harry being diseased and Peter wearing the symbiote.
Incorporating the symbiote into Peter's character development opens up opportunities for dynamic growth and introduces Venom, as well as the potential for other symbiote-driven narratives.
Introducing a red symbiote suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 3 could inject a thrilling and darker element into the franchise, elevating the excitement and gameplay to new heights.
The originality behind Insomniac's take on Spider-Man mythology has made it an exciting franchise to follow since its inception. For example, the inclusion of Mr. Negative as a surprising member of the Sinister Six in Marvel's Spider-Man provided a fresh twist to the story. Additionally, Peter's life as a recent university graduate offered a unique perspective on the character.
However, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 incorporates familiar Spider-Man storylines from previous theatrical interpretations. This includes Harry's unexplained illness and Peter's acquisition of the symbiote.
The symbiote's impact on Peter's mood and tone in the sequel adds a dynamic element to his character development, as shown in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's gameplay reveal. This development will inevitably lead to the introduction of Venom, a hulking symbiote-infused monstrosity. It will be intriguing to witness how this narrative arc unfolds.
If Peter or Miles were to eventually become hosts for Carnage by wearing the red symbiote, gameplay could feature graphic and destructive abilities, resulting in chaotic mayhem.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Black Suit Already Looks Like a Scene Stealer
Insomniac faced a challenging situation with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as they had to develop satisfying abilities for Peter, considering the success of Miles' bioelectricity and optic camouflage experimentation in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The introduction of the black suit resolves this issue by granting Peter a range of new tendril-based abilities while he bonds with the symbiote. The origins of this suit and Peter's reasons for allowing the bond remain uncertain.
The suit undeniably enhances Peter's abilities and its unique appearance adds a distinctive touch to the Marvel's Spider-Man universe. Insomniac's reverence for the symbiote suit is evident, as they have made considerable efforts to honor its inclusion. Aside from its significance in the franchise, the suit represents one of the most substantial gameplay changes thus far.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Introducing a Red Carnage Suit Could Be a Game-Changer
Rewriting theThis feature alone will significantly increase players' excitement about playing as Peter with a symbiote-infused suit, surpassing even the thrill of his regular red-and-blue costume. It might even overshadow Miles' own abilities in terms of excitement. Considering the vast variety of symbiotes in Spider-Man lore, incorporating the red symbiote into a wearable suit would present an incredible opportunity for Insomniac to showcase their innovation.
Cletus Kasady, a notorious serial killer, has long been intertwined with the crimson symbiote in the Spider-Man universe. Their unhinged and deranged nature make them a chilling match, forming the malevolent entity known as Carnage. Throughout numerous Spider-Man comic book series, this sinister pairing has emerged as a formidable adversary, captivating fans with the captivating connection it shares with Venom.
While there have been numerous symbiotes introduced in recent Marvel lore, particularly with the emergence of Knull and the intricate world-building surrounding him, Carnage stands out as the most popular symbiote alongside Venom. It will be intriguing to see the conclusion of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and the hints it leaves for a potential third installment. While it is almost certain that Norman Osborn will become the Green Goblin based on the breadcrumbs already provided, it wouldn't be out of the question for Insomniac to fully explore a symbiote saga instead.
If they choose to do so, Marvel's Spider-Man 3 could introduce the red symbiote and have it bond with Peter or even Miles, resulting in gameplay that evokes memories of the black symbiote in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Insomniac should not rush into this storyline unless it feels earned, and it is possible that the black suit will remain the sole symbiote featured in the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise. However, the prospect of gameplay where Peter or Miles could wield red scythes and utilize other sharp symbiote abilities is exhilarating and would take the series down a darker and more devious path than the black symbiote ever could.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
