Overwatch 2 has bugged character skins that have been available for over a year, causing frustration among players.

The transition from Overwatch to Overwatch 2 caused issues with certain skins, leading to the loss of visual details and effects. Specifically, the Golden Gun cosmetic for characters like Reaper or Ana can obstruct visual elements on their weapons.

Overwatch 2 celebrates its first year of early access anniversary launch, and a player has compiled a comprehensive list of currently bugged character skins that have been available since last year. Unlike its predecessor, Overwatch 2 follows a free-to-play model, allowing players to dive into a match without any upfront payment. To sustain the game, Blizzard employs monetization methods such as releasing battle passes, introducing new cosmetic items, and most recently, offering new PvE missions through a paid DLC pack.

Despite the frequent updates and additions to improve the live service experience, the monetization aspect remains a source of frustration for many players, particularly due to some steep prices in the in-game Overwatch 2 store. However, the situation has improved since Overwatch 2's early access launch, as missing features are being added, new game modes are introduced, and character balancing is being addressed to enhance their viability. Nonetheless, certain minor aspects, like a handful of bugged skins for different characters, still require attention as pointed out by a player.

A member of the Overwatch subReddit, known as Minehot, has created a post revealing a collection of skins that have remained buggy and visually flawed for over a year. These are the skins that were initially introduced in Overwatch and were supposed to transition seamlessly into Overwatch 2, allowing players to keep their cosmetic items. However, a number of weapon and character skins did not make the transition as expected. Some are plagued by bugs, while others are missing specific visual details that originally made them intriguing.

In Minehot's post, they specifically highlight seven skins using screenshots to showcase the problems associated with each. However, it should be noted that the community has expressed that these seven examples are not the sole issues, as there are numerous other skins that continue to have problems or are missing certain components.

Ana's Epic Tal skin lacks the distinctive visual elements present in the Golden Gun version.

The Legendary Pink skin for Mercy still does not feature the exclusive pink visual effects while using her staff. Currently, it continues to utilize the generic yellow effect.

Genji - Regrettably, Genji encounters problems with two of his cosmetics. The first issue concerns Karasu-Tengu, where the intended orange effect on his blade disappears when equipping the Golden Gun weapon skin. The second problem lies with the 2018 Pacific All-Stars skin, which removes the distinctive magma highlights on his weapons.

Zenyatta - In the case of the Legendary Zen-Nakji skin, Zenyatta initially left behind a distinctive tentacle pattern when utilizing the Transcendence ultimate ability. However, in Overwatch 2, this effect is no longer present.

Reaper - Like other entries on this list, the Golden Gun weapon skin appears to change the visual effects of Reaper's weapons, completely removing a blue highlight effect.

Symmetra - The Epic Peacock skin for Symmetra appears to have a different color, with a simpler blue hue instead of the purple shimmer style it usually has.

The previously mentioned examples are just a glimpse of the numerous bugged skins in Overwatch 2. Alongside those, several new cosmetics have also been released with peculiar issues. Interestingly, a Forest Spirit Orisa skin was recently observed to be lacking a small, distinctive component in her javelin, resulting in its substitution with a default, unremarkable appearance. Overwatch 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
