The Armadillo won this year's Minecraft mob vote, promising to protect players' dogs and adding wolf armor to the game.
The Armadillo's victory encountered controversy when some players boycotted the vote, however, its charming design captivated numerous hearts. As for Armadillos, much remains uncertain, yet there is a possibility that players can domesticate and cultivate them.
In 2017, the Minecraft team established a tradition known as the yearly Mob Vote. Since then, Mojang has allowed fans to choose which mobs (and even biomes) would be added to the game. Fans eagerly competed to secure their chosen Minecraft companion, knowing only one group would emerge as the victors. Nevertheless, this event was eagerly anticipated.
This year, the Armadillo emerged as the triumphant Minecraft mob. Despite formidable competition from two other mobs, the promise of a creature that could safeguard players' dogs resonated most deeply with fans. After all, a mob that supports another beloved mob is undeniably appealing. Now, it is the Armadillos' turn to shine in-game and extend a helping hand to players.
How Minecraft's Armadillo Will Change the Game
The mob vote for this year had a rough start. Minecraft players who were tired of missing out on two other mobs initiated a boycott that gained significant traction. While some players only cared about one particular mob, many expressed their frustration at the loss of two mobs each year. Despite the movement, the mob vote was not affected, and the Armadillo emerged as the sole survivor among this year's mobs. Although this upset some players, it thrilled just as many, thanks to its charming design that captured hearts.
The Armadillo brings something valuable to players: wolf armor. Tamed wolves have been a beloved feature in Minecraft, but there has never been a reliable way to protect them. However, with the introduction of the Armadillo's scute, everything changes. In the video showcasing the Armadillo, it appears that they drop the scute when startled from behind. This addition of wolf armor could potentially save players who forget to command their dogs to stay at home and find them unexpectedly following them in the wilderness.
Compared to the Crab and Penguin mobs introduced this year, it comes as no surprise that the Armadillo emerged as the winner. While the Minecraft Crab had its utility, it fell short when compared to something that could benefit dogs. On the other hand, the Penguin, although cute, had a limited usefulness. The Armadillo, however, was the perfect choice for this year's new mob. Not only does it serve as dog armor, but it is also an adorable and protective roaming creature.
During the Armadillo's introduction, fans witnessed the small mob rolling and exploring the savanna. Although no official details have been provided about this feature, it leaves room for speculation on what the Armadillo may be capable of. The only other mob that visibly sniffs is the Sniffer, Minecraft's latest addition, but its sole purpose is to perform that action. It makes one wonder what other abilities this new companion will bring in the upcoming version.
Mojang has not provided any information about whether the mob can be tamed or the breeding process for Armadillos. While players often test the game's boundaries by collecting numerous Minecraft mobs in a single area, it remains unclear if Armadillos can be densely packed in one location. Fans will have to patiently wait for Mojang to release the upcoming update featuring Armadillos, allowing them to indulge in speculation. Minecraft is currently accessible on various platforms including Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
