Early reviews of Lionsgate's new horror film Cobweb are positive, praising it as a solid domestic horror with elements of ambiguity that keep viewers guessing. Starring Anthony Starr and Lizzy Caplan, the film is led by Woody Norman, who portrays 8-year-old Peter, a determined child investigating mysterious noises within his house's walls. Director Samuel Bodwin was drawn to the project due to the unique tone of writer Chris Thomas Devlin's script, as stated in an interview with Screen Rant.
Adding to the eerie atmosphere of Cobweb is the haunting musical score by Drum & Lace, the artistic project of film composer Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist. Screen Rant is thrilled to present a sneak peek of Drum & Lace's work on Cobweb, with the premiere of the track "Leave the Dark" from the upcoming full soundtrack release. Listen below:
Listen to Cobweb: Original Motion Picture Score on July 21st
"Leave the Dark" is an exquisitely unsettling musical composition that gives a glimpse into the overall mood and scale of Drum & Lace's music for the film Cobweb. In creating the score for Cobweb, Drum & Lace employed a 40-piece string ensemble, synthesizers, and a diverse range of other instruments. Drum & Lace is renowned for their use of sampling and sound experimentation, which expanded the sonic possibilities for Cobweb even further. Drum & Lace described their approach to altering the initial tone of the score, drawing inspiration from the music heard in iconic Amblin studios films:
To begin composing, I invited cellist Ro Rowan to record various cello effects to be scattered throughout the musical cues. Additionally, composer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez contributed powerful and grand saxophone swells, which can be heard extensively in the score. These recordings were extensively manipulated and proved to be highly effective in the latter half of the score.
"Leave the Dark" is one of the 36 music pieces featured on Cobweb: Original Motion Picture Score. Although Drum & Lace has previously scored horror projects, this soundtrack stands out as an exciting new offering from the composer, who has also worked on Hulu's Rosaline. The titles of the tracks on the Cobweb: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, such as "Clawed," "Help Me," and "I Heard Something," hint at the thrilling and tension-filled experience they promise.
Cobweb is set to hit theaters on July 21st. On the same day, Cobweb: Original Motion Picture Score will be available on various digital platforms through Lionsgate Records, and can be streamed here.
