How to Reach the Fauna Under NeonHow to Find the Volii Alpha Fauna
Starfield offers players the opportunity to explore and analyze numerous planets and moons. While some of these celestial bodies are desolate, others consist solely of icy rocks, and a few are teeming with life reminiscent of Earth's past. Among all these options, Volii Alpha stands apart.
Volii Alpha is home to Neon, one of Starfield's four major cities. What sets it apart is that the entire planet is enveloped by water, with the city of Neon situated on an immense offshore platform. Consequently, the conventional approach to conducting surveys cannot be applied here. However, players can still successfully complete this particular survey by acquiring knowledge on where and how to investigate.
How to Reach the Fauna Under Neon
To reach the ocean below Neon, players have two options. The first is to simply jump off the landing pad, as falling into water does not cause any damage in this game. Alternatively, players can utilize the fast travel feature to return to central Neon.
However, there is a safer method that works for all characters. Start by heading to the main strip in central Neon and find one of the side doors that leads to Ebbside. In Ebbside, there are two elevators that will take players down to a lower platform where fishing businesses are located. Another option is to use a boost pack to jump from Ebbside directly to this platform.
Head towards the Generdyne Industries building and make a right to locate a third elevator. This particular elevator will take you down to a small dock situated just above the water's edge.
Interestingly enough, the lower platform and this very dock offer an ideal opportunity for gamers seeking to clandestinely transport Aurora or any illicit items beyond the security checkpoint. The checkpoint is positioned below the lower platform, allowing players to leap from it onto the walkway that leads to the landing pad. Furthermore, players can then jump from the landing pad to the dock, effectively evading the security measures.
How to Find the Volii Alpha Fauna
In order to complete the survey in Volii Alpha, players must locate two fauna and two resources. Upon landing on the planet, the resources are automatically scanned, so the main task is to scan for the two types of fish that make up the fauna.
Being an aquatic planet, both of these animals are fish species that can be found swimming below the Neon supports. It's worth noting that they may not always be found near the dock, so players might need to swim and use boosters to reach the other pillars. The good news is that players can scan these fish species from any distance, unlike the usual requirement of being within 10 to 50 meters.
The hunting sharkwhale and the chasmbass are the two species involved. The chasmbass, specifically, serves as the source of Aurora. Players can acquire this resource from them and then utilize a pharmaceutical station, provided they possess sufficient Chemistry skills, to craft it into Aurora. This presents an alternative method for smuggling Aurora off-planet.
Players are likely to encounter a challenge in their quest, which is the scarcity of both fish species required to complete the survey in a single trip. Only a limited number of fish can be found in the vicinity of Neon, and there are no fish at all further away. Consequently, players should avoid attempting to explore outside of the Neon area to locate additional fish. Nevertheless, there are a few solutions available to overcome this issue.
Investing skill points in Zoology allows players to complete their survey with a lower number of animal scans. Whether the animals are alive or deceased, players have the advantage of scanning the same animals twice if they choose to save, exit the game, and then reload.
The fish under Neon will respawn every few hours. If they are not respawning or if players cannot find any fish under Neon, it might be a good idea to take a break and try again later.
Although Volii Alpha is relatively easy to scan because it only has two fauna species to search for, it can also be quite challenging because these species are not always easy to find, and there are not many of them. However, with the right approach, this survey can be made simpler, and it also provides an opportunity to collect ample free chasmbass oil for Aurora production.
