Highlights
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's gameplay and live-service elements have disappointed Arkhamverse fans, making them skeptical about the game's overall quality.
Gotham Knights and Kill the Justice League both exemplify the publisher's tendency to follow trends. The fact that Gotham Knights is now available on Game Pass is a promising change that may have an impact on the success of Kill the Justice League.
The gameplay reveal of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed to impress the Arkhamverse fans. The inclusion of live-service elements in the leaked information further disappointed these fans. Although it appears that players will be engaging in continuous combat against purple aliens and other mysterious targets, the true nature of Kill the Justice League remains unknown until more details emerge. Unfortunately, it received similar criticism to Gotham Knights prior to its release.
Gotham Knights and Kill the Justice League share a connection through their developers, who are renowned for their work in the Arkhamverse. Despite attempting an original storyline, both games demonstrate a pattern of their publisher following trends that ultimately disappoint fans. As a result of this trend, fans can expect to see more single-player games in development. Recently, Gotham Knights made the decision to join Game Pass, and it would be wise for Kill the Justice League to follow suit.
Gotham Knights Came to Game Pass a Little Too Late
Gotham Knights lacked a live-service aspect and initially only offered two-player co-op, which disappointed fans. Despite the later addition of four-player co-op, the post-launch content failed to fully engage players in this mode. Had the game been available on Game Pass at the time of its Heroic Assault mode, it could have potentially attracted a large player base across both console and PC.
The arrival of Gotham Knights on Game Pass now is a positive development for those who didn't want to purchase it at full retail price but still wish to try it out. However, player numbers have likely declined since the release of post-launch content, and the general consensus around the game has not improved. Furthermore, the lack of full crossplay across all platforms, although there is some compatibility between PC and console, limits the player pool for Game Pass subscribers to their respective platforms of choice.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Should Hop to Game Pass Sooner Than Later
If Kill the Justice League is not included in Game Pass from day one, it has the opportunity to rejuvenate itself. However, Gotham Knights should prioritize being included in Game Pass. By being available on Game Pass upon release in February, Kill the Justice League could attract more fans who are already subscribed. This approach proved successful for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and since Kill the Justice League is a multiplayer shooter unlike Gotham Knights, it could effectively engage fans who may have been hesitant to try it. Despite the potential impact, it may not fully alleviate concerns if Kill the Justice League still contains leaked battle pass and live-service elements after its recent delay. Nevertheless, by making it more easily accessible, fans may be more open-minded until they have personally experienced the game, taking on the roles of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, or Captain Boomerang in the bustling city of Metropolis.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
