Highlights
Final Fantasy 14's latest update allows players to experience the entire storyline solo, catering to those who prefer to play without social interaction.
Introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion, the Duty Support system now encompasses all story content, providing solo players with NPCs as party members to overcome challenging dungeons. Additionally, this update brings forth new main and side quests, enhancements to Treasure Hunts, expanded item selections at vendors, and notable improvements to housing, resulting in a comprehensive and impactful update.
Players can now complete the entire storyline of Final Fantasy 14 on their own, without the need for assistance from other players. While Final Fantasy 14 is often enjoyed with friends, there are those who prefer a more solitary experience, focusing solely on the game's captivating narrative. The latest update is a major win for solo players, as it allows them to fully immerse themselves in the story without relying on social interactions.
In its nature as an MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14 typically requires players to form teams in order to conquer challenging dungeons. These dungeons are designed to be too difficult for a single player to handle. However, this began to change with the introduction of the Trust System in the Shadowbringers expansion, now known as Duty Support in FF14's Endwalker expansion. Through the implementation of Duty Support, players were able to survive treacherous dungeons by utilizing non-playable characters (NPCs) as members of their party, thereby eliminating the need for a team of actual players. However, until now, Duty Support had not been fully integrated into the entirety of the game's story content.
Now, following the recent 6.5 update for Final Fantasy 14, all the current story content can be enjoyed on your own. This means that you can now play all the recent dungeons, such as The Drowned City of Skalla, The Burn, The Ghimlyt Dark, and Lunar Subterrane, using the Duty Support system. This change is particularly helpful for players who wish to experience the entire story arc that began with A Realm Reborn and concluded with Endwalker, spanning over a decade, without the need for companions or struggling to find teammates for older content. While this doesn't transform FF14 into a fully-fledged single-player game, it does provide a means to play through previous content solo, as the NPCs incorporated into the party offer great assistance and bring balance to the gameplay.
In addition to the aforementioned features, the latest update to Final Fantasy 14 introduces various other enhancements. To begin with, additional main story quests have been introduced, setting the stage for the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, slated for release in 2024. Furthermore, players can expect fresh side quests, updates to Treasure Hunts, expanded vendor offerings, housing updates, and more, making this update quite significant.
Of particular interest is the revamped Duty Support system, which offers an engaging starting point for players. With the recent patch, players participating in the free trial of FF14 now have access to all content up until the Stormblood expansion. This eliminates one of the restrictions typically faced by free trial players, as they can now fully immerse themselves in the game's story without the need for a subscription. Although non-subscribers may still be unable to partake in Ultimate raids, this is inconsequential for those who prefer a solo experience and simply wish to enjoy the game's narrative.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
