Apex Legends players recently got a sneak peek at the game's upcoming collaboration with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth through a new event trailer. Initially announced at 2023's The Game Awards on December 7, details were limited, leaving fans of both games curious about the event. According to the new trailer, the event will offer a new limited-time mode, Final Fantasy-themed cosmetic skins, and a new Buster Sword Heirloom Weapon that can be equipped by any legend, a first of its kind.
The event, starting on January 9, will introduce a new LTM replacing unranked battle royale mode for three weeks. Named Final Fantasy Takeover, the mode will feature Cactuar-themed "Cacticks" scatter across the maps, offering Materia Hop-Ups when destroyed. Materia Hop-Ups provide players with special buffs like lightning AoE damage, HP absorption, and an AI-controller SOLDIER Nessie to aid in battle. Players will also have the opportunity to wield Cloud's Buster Sword, using it to deflect bullets, dash, and perform special Limit Breaks.
The Apex Legends & Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Event is all about cosmetics, featuring a total of 36 items (usually, Collection Events only have 24). These cosmetics will give the game's characters and weapons a Final Fantasy-themed makeover, including an Aerith skin for Horizon, a Cloud skin for Crypto, a Moogle-esque skin for Wattson, a Vincent Valentine skin for Wraith, and more.
Players can either purchase skins directly or use Event Packs to unlock items from the new skin collection randomly. The new Buster Sword R5 Heirloom Weapon is also part of the loot pool, and players won't need to collect all 36 cosmetics to unlock it. However, unlike previous Collection Events, the Buster Sword R5 Heirloom Weapon won't be available in the in-game Mythic Store after the event ends, so players can only get it during the event.
Respawn has a special reward for players who unlock all 36 cosmetic items: The One-Winged Angel Deathbox, which can be equipped to any legend's deathbox to give it a unique, Sephiroth-approved look. Even players not planning to spend real money on the event can still receive free loot through new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth-inspired Twitch drops, available starting January 12.
The Apex Legends & Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Event starts on Tuesday, January 9 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET and ends on Tuesday, January 30 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.

The Final Fantasy-themed cosmetics are particularly exciting, as they allow players to customize their favorite legends with iconic elements from the Final Fantasy series. The Aerith skin for Horizon, Cloud skin for Crypto, and Moogle-esque skin for Wattson are just a few examples of the amazing skins that will be available. I'm also intrigued by the new limited-time mode, Final Fantasy Takeover, which will introduce Cacticks and Materia Hop-Ups to the game. These additions will undoubtedly add a new level of strategy and excitement to the battle royale experience.
