In World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, the primary adversaries are the Primal Incarnates, colossal proto-dragons who possess control over the fundamental elements. There are four of these entities, each embodying one of Azeroth's elemental forces. However, this power is not exclusive to World of Warcraft, as players have faced various elemental minions in previous expansions, some of which nearly brought about the world's destruction.
The elemental energies of Azeroth have always been tumultuous, giving rise to mighty elementals soon after the planet's formation. Among these, the Elemental Lords reign supreme, serving as manifestations of the four primary elements of Azeroth. One of the most renowned of these Lords is Ragnaros, known as the Firelord, whom players have encountered multiple times throughout the years. This raises the question of whether these Elemental Lords surpass the power of the Primal Incarnates, and if the heroes of Azeroth can overcome them unaided.
World of Warcraft's Elemental Lords Used to Own Azeroth
Centuries ago, even before the Old Gods arrived on Azeroth, the elements were in constant turmoil, locked in an unending battle against each other. Eventually, the Old Gods took control of the Elemental Lords, and the fighting continued relentlessly. When the Titans arrived to vanquish the threat of the Old Gods, they also imprisoned the Elemental Lords, confining them to specially-designed Elemental Planes, preventing any further destruction on Azeroth's surface.
Many players are familiar with Ragnaros, who served as the final boss in the game's initial raid, Molten Core. Years later, in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Ragnaros emerged once again, this time as a devoted ally to Deathwing. Despite the need to defeat the Elemental Lords within their own domains for a final victory, courageous players ventured deep into the Firelands and successfully ended the reign of the Firelord. This feat was achieved not only by the world's most powerful heroes, but also with the invaluable aid of numerous Wild Gods and the collaboration of all Azeroth's druids working together.
Ragnaros and Fyrakk, the Flame Incarnate, are both formidable adversaries capable of engulfing entire areas in destructive flames, annihilating enemies effortlessly. Fyrakk's power has been enhanced by the infusion of Shadowflame, granting him a greater level of strength. Additionally, Fyrakk possesses the ability to fly, further adding to his intimidating presence. However, players have yet to face Fyrakk in battle, leaving his true capabilities a mystery.
Despite Fyrakk's impressive abilities, Ragnaros possesses several crucial advantages over him. As the Elemental Lord, Ragnaros commands countless legions of elemental beings, whereas Fyrakk relies on the loyalty of shamanic followers who will inevitably decrease in number over time. Moreover, Ragnaros is essentially immortal when on Azeroth and his control over magma and fire knows no bounds. Players are aware that Fyrakk, while powerful, does not share the same immortality. For instance, Raszageth, the Storm Incarnate, was recently vanquished by the heroes of Azeroth without any possibility of revival.
Considering all these factors, it appears that Ragnaros, the Elemental Lord of Fire, would likely come out on top if he were to confront Fyrakk. Ragnaros has existed since the dawn of the elements, while Fyrakk, although ancient, has not lived a fraction of that time. Therazane, Al’akir, and Neptulon, the other Elemental Lords, are also likely to surpass the Incarnates in terms of both power and longevity.
It is worth noting that even though two of the Elemental Lords are no longer present, they could not have been defeated without the combined efforts of both mortals and immortals. Fyrakk the Blazing can only be defeated by harnessing the collective power of all the dragon Aspects, but it is important to remember who truly holds the title of Lord of Fire.
