Discover the simple steps to advance to the next age in Age of Empires 4 Uncover the requirements and learn about the pivotal role of landmarks

Age of Empires is a highly beloved real-time strategy game that stands out for various reasons. It seamlessly combines military tactics and the construction of bases with resource gathering and management, exploration, and an overall sense of historical authenticity. Age of Empires 4 follows this tradition, immersing players in a largely medieval setting that spans from the Dark Age to the Imperial Age.

As players progress through the game and move from one Age to the next, they will unlock new buildings and units. It is crucial to strive for a quicker advancement in comparison to opponents in order to unlock more powerful units and technologies earlier on. This strategic advantage on the battlefield can prove to be significant. The process of aging-up in Age of Empires 4 has undergone some changes from previous versions, although the fundamental elements remain the same. Players must reach certain milestones in gathering resources to construct special buildings that advance their civilization's age, while also providing unique bonuses and advantages.

Advance To The Next Age Requirements

To progress to the next age, players must gather a specific amount of resources to fulfill the building requirements of a Landmark. Resources can be collected by assigning villagers to gather them within the game world. Typically, these advancements only necessitate food and gold to unlock, although the Landmarks themselves may deduct additional resources such as wood.

Each age will demand a greater amount of resources to unlock the construction of the subsequent Landmark. Thus, ensuring that resources are acquired at an increasing rate with each progression is crucial to avoid being trapped in a regressive or stagnant age. The advancement requirements are consistent for all ages and civilizations and are as follows:

Feudal Age (II):

Resources: 400 Food, 200 Gold

Build Time: 3m 10s.

Castle Age (III):

Resources: 1200 Food, 600 Gold

Build Time: 3m 40s.

Imperial Age (IV):

Resources: 2400 Food, 1200 Gold

Build Time: 4m 10s.

Landmarks

Once the minimum resource threshold for advancement has been reached, players can begin constructing Landmarks. This can be done by selecting a villager and assigning them to the task or by clicking on the Advance Age button located in the lower center of the screen. The button will indicate the player's civilization's current age in Roman numerals and will light up when the option to advance to the next age becomes available.

Once players are chosen, they can select a Landmark to build from a range of options. Each Landmark offers distinct bonuses and comes with different costs. Additionally, each nation has its own exclusive Landmarks, allowing for aesthetic differentiation between societies. Construction of the Landmark requires time, and the advancement to the next age will only occur once the building is complete. Once this milestone is reached, all units and buildings in the settlement will receive significant upgrades, and the selected Landmark's bonus effects will come into play.

Age of Empires 4 is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
