One creative player of The Last of Us Part 2 showcased Ellie's ability to take out an enemy patrol while resting on a couch. This impressive feat gained attention on social media, contributing to the growing collection of amusing clips from the game. Despite its serious and somber tone, The Last of Us 2 has garnered widespread acclaim for its captivating gameplay and immersive storytelling, which is filled with tragic and unexpected twists. Despite the scarcity of lighthearted moments in the game, fans have still found ways to engage in entertaining antics that contrast with its bleak world.
Content creator OreVsWorld has been consistently exploring the concept of surprising attacks in The Last of Us 2. One of their most frequented ideas involves the "ambush of the year" theme. In a particular attempt, the player had Ellie crawl onto an abandoned couch and recline on the armrest as if she were dozing off. Although the game doesn't incorporate power naps as a gameplay mechanic, the player made do by ambushing a nearby patrol with Molotov cocktails from this relaxed position. Their Ellie observed in a nonchalant manner as two unknowing enemies struggled with the fire, before finally leaning over the backrest to end the last enemy's suffering with a precise headshot.
This comical maneuver was one of OreVsWorld's earliest complex ambush attempts in The Last of Us 2, with the video clip itself dating back to late March. However, it has become one of the content creator's most popular endeavors so far, garnering nearly eight million views on TikTok in the following six months. Its actual reach may be even higher, as the video continues to circulate on social media platforms. Most recently, it resurfaced on the front page of the r/TheLastOfUs subreddit in late September.
In addition to its entertainment value, the video highlights The Last of Us 2's impressively well-designed stealth mechanics, which effectively balance fun and realism. While enemies may occasionally overlook certain details, such as Ellie's head peeking out from behind a couch, their overall sight and hearing abilities remain believable, allowing players to be fully immersed in the game's world without being overly punished.
These highly acclaimed stealth mechanics are expected to be further explored by Naughty Dog in the future, potentially starting with the upcoming multiplayer spin-off of The Last of Us. However, even if this particular title leans more towards action-oriented gameplay, it seems that Neil Druckmann himself is already hinting at The Last of Us 3 adopting a different approach.
The Last of Us Part 2 is available now on PS4.
