In Cyberpunk 2077, choices play a crucial role in determining the morality and consequences of the game. This holds true for the DLC expansion, Phantom Liberty, which presents V and Johnny with numerous decisions that will leave them pondering their next course of action. One such dilemma arises during the Lucretia My Reflection main mission, involving two Dogtown residents named Jacob and Taylor.
Deciding whether to take a life is never an easy choice, particularly when these individuals unknowingly stumble upon V and President Myers' hideout. The crux of the matter lies in the fate of Jacob and Taylor, prompting players to question whether they should kill them or spare them in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
Should You Kill Jacob And Taylor?
During the Lucretia My Reflection mission, players will take shelter in an abandoned apartment on the 8th floor of a complex. However, their moment of respite is disrupted when two Dogtown residents stumble upon the hideout. President Myers, who is known for his ruthless nature as the leader of the New United States of America, suggests killing them to eliminate any risk of betrayal. However, V has the option to reject this idea and instead try to communicate and establish a connection with the strangers, Jacob and Taylor, who could potentially become valuable allies.
There are various approaches to navigate this difficult decision, considering the natural inclination to remove these characters from the equation. After all, V's main priority is ensuring President Myers' safety, as this could be the key to saving their own life from the Relic. Yet, these two individuals appear innocent, raising the question of whether it is justifiable to kill them, especially when they may have more to offer than simply being disposed of.
Outcome 1: Kill Jacob and Taylor
There are multiple ways for players to eliminate Jacob and Taylor in the game. The first method involves disregarding the Quick-Time Event prompt that appears when President Myers expresses interest in eliminating them. If players allow the bar to deplete, Myers will emerge from cover and gun down the duo, effectively preventing any chance of negotiation. Following their demise, players can scavenge their bodies, although they will only discover a random and inferior firearm, along with a minimal amount of Eurodollars that can barely cover the cost of a snack.
Another approach to eliminating Jacob and Taylor is by disregarding the rules of negotiation. If players get too close to them, they will open fire. Alternatively, if the negotiation goes awry and V continues to threaten them, the situation takes a turn for the worse. Players also have the option to open fire on them while in the midst of conversation in an attempt to kill them. Overall, disposing of Jacob and Taylor is not particularly challenging, but the question remains: is it truly worth it?
By eliminating Jacob and Taylor, players forfeit the chance to engage in dialogue with the pair of survivors from Dogtown. Additionally, they must transport their lifeless bodies to the nearby garbage chute situated outside the apartment room. President Myers emphasizes that if any other individuals stumble upon the hideout, they too will meet the same fate as Jacob and Taylor and be dispatched through the garbage chute. Although players can find solace in the assurance that no one else will arrive, the thought of having potentially lost two prospective companions in Dogtown may serve as a source of restlessness that keeps them awake at night.
Outcome 2: Talk to Jacob and Taylor
To address the Jacob and Taylor situation, an alternative approach would be to engage in direct communication. Upon President Myers' indication of his intent to eliminate them, players should emerge from their hiding spots and make their presence known to the pair. This will initiate a negotiation phase, allowing players to engage in a timed dialogue consisting of three choices. The first dialogue option to be selected should be "Live to see another day."
If players choose the Corpo Lifepath, they have the option to assign the negotiation task to President Myers. Regardless of the player's choice, Jacob and Taylor will always request a means of escape from Dogtown and a Rayfield vehicle, which President Myers willingly grants.
Once negotiations are successful, Jacob and Taylor will remain present. Players have the opportunity to engage in optional dialogue with them, delving into their backgrounds and origins. Having two additional allies to aid in the protection of President Myers proves advantageous. If players spare Jacob and Taylor's lives, Jacob will explain Airdrops in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty the following morning. Furthermore, they will make an appearance in the future mission, Lucretia My Reflection, acting as guards for the hideout.
What’s the Best Outcome for Jacob and Taylor?
The fate of Jacob and Taylor is ultimately inconsequential as their survival or demise during this mission has no impact on their future. If players decide to kill them, it is a final decision that will only burden their conscience in a situation with no risk. Alternatively, if players spare Jacob and Taylor, they will briefly become friends in Dogtown. However, whether players choose to kill or trust Jacob and Taylor, their ultimate outcome remains the same after the Lucretia My Reflection mission. Regardless of the choice made, players will not witness Jacob and Taylor being happy and leaving Dogtown.
