Recently, a dedicated speedrunner shattered the Lies of P speedrun record, completing the game in under two hours. This impressive feat occurred only a few weeks after the game's release in mid-September. Lies of P, a highly anticipated Souls-like game, received widespread praise and fan adoration in 2023. Alongside its captivating storyline, which offers a dark twist on the tale of Pinocchio, the game garnered acclaim for its diverse enemies, precise controls, and innovative crafting system that empowers players to dismantle and create new weapons.
First-time players usually require around 40 hours to complete Lies of P, but YouTuber Distortion2 managed to do it in a much shorter time. This renowned speedrunner, known for his expertise in Souls-like games, finished Lies of P in just over an hour and 47 minutes. The entire run can be seen on his YouTube channel.
Distortion2 used a variety of strategies to bypass large portions of the game and defeat bosses effortlessly. This included spamming throwables and taking full advantage of Specters, similar to Elden Ring's Spirits. Specters in Lies of P provide players with an optional advantage during boss battles, but they still demand proficiency in the game's RPG mechanics.
Reflecting on his achievement, Distortion2 described this run as "really bad," stating that he only shared it to showcase the community's progress in speedrunning. In addition to losing valuable time from dying and resurrecting, the YouTuber also acknowledged that the overall strategy he used was outdated when he posted the video on October 1. Since then, the speedrunning community has discovered three new skips that Distortion2 plans to incorporate in future attempts to beat Lies of P as quickly as possible.
Despite his modest perspective, this impressive run currently holds the unofficial world record in Lies of P's Any% category. Speedrun.com, the largest online speedrunning community, will officially open the game's leaderboards on October 5. The gap between Lies of P's release and the start of its speedrunning season is a standard practice on the platform, allowing players to fully enjoy each new release before focusing on achieving the fastest completion time.
