The Winter 2024 anime line-up looks promising with the recent addition of The Unwanted Undead Adventurer adaptation. A teaser promotional video was released this week, providing more details about the upcoming adaptation. This video also unveiled the theme song artists and confirmed its inclusion in the Winter 2024 line-up.
The video made its debut during the 10 Anniversary Memorial Overlap Bunko All-Star Assemble Special, which was live-streamed on Sunday, October 15. It featured a preview of the opening theme song titled "Immortal," performed by JUVENILE, a talented DJ/artist. Additionally, Mao Abe will be in charge of the ending song, although the title has yet to be revealed.
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer revolves around the tale of Rentt Faina, a young adventurer with mediocre skills in hunting monsters. He often finds himself engaged in low-level quests, battling goblins and slimes, without much satisfaction. However, everything changes when he unexpectedly encounters a dragon, which swallows him whole. Despite this unfortunate incident, Rentt's journey continues as he returns in the form of a skeleton, trapped between life and death. Determined to regain his humanity and return to the world of the living, he embarks on a different kind of adventure.
The light novel series, The Unwanted Undead Adventurer, was written by Yuu Okano and initially published in 2016 on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later picked up and published in print by OVERLAP. The series is illustrated by Jaian. In 2017, a manga adaptation of The Unwanted Undead Adventurer written by Haiji Nakasone was published on OVERLAP's manga website, Comic Gardo.
Now, a new anime adaptation of the series has been announced by CONNECT. The cast and crew have been revealed, featuring some notable names. Director Noriaki Akitaya (known for Bakuman), scriptwriter Yukie Sugawara (known for Overlord), and talented voice actors Mikako Komatsu (from Jujutsu Kaisen), Ryouta Suzuki (from Kaguya-sama: Love is War), and Sayumi Suzushiro (also from Kaguya-sama: Love is War) will be part of this exciting project.
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer is set to premiere on Crunchyroll in January 2024.
