Best Nature and Moveset for Okidogi
Okidogi, the Legendary dual Poison/Fighting-type Pokemon, is an essential character in the popular game Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's The Teal Mask. As with other Legendary Pokemon, trainers will have the opportunity to capture Okidogi later in their gameplay. However, for those who wish to utilize Okidogi effectively in battle or competitive play, it is vital to create a strong and well-rounded moveset for this incredible creature.
How to Get Okidogi
: Enhancing Okidogi's Moveset with TMsUnlike the Legendary Ogerpon, capturing Okidogi and the other "Loyal" Three requires completing The Teal Mask DLC's story. Scarlet/Violet trainers can find Okidogi in the Paradise Barrens, in the same location where they previously battled him alongside Carmine. Okidogi's level is always set at 70, so it is advisable to challenge him after obtaining all eight gym badges, as having more badges increases the chances of successfully capturing Pokemon.
Okidogi is highly vulnerable to Psychic attacks, making it crucial for trainers to avoid using this Type in order to gradually reduce its HP. To increase the chances of capturing this Legendary Pokémon, ensure to have both Ultra Balls and Timer Balls in your inventory. Additionally, it is advised to save the game before engaging in a battle with Okidogi.
Understanding Okidogi (Stats, Strengths, Weaknesses, etc.)
Due to its Poison/Fighting typing, Okidogi possesses type advantages against many Pokemon. However, it also comes with several weaknesses. It is highly advisable for Okidogi to steer clear of any Psychic-type moves, as they exploit its 4x weakness, potentially resulting in a swift defeat.
Okidogi's Toxic Chain Ability has a 30% likelihood of inflicting severe poisoning on the opponent upon being struck by a move. In addition, its Hidden Ability, Guard Dog, enhances Okidogi's Attack stat during battles in response to being Intimidated. Moreover, Okidogi cannot be forcefully switched out by an opponent's attack, such as Dragon Tail or Roar.

Guard Dog | If the opposing Pokemon has the Intimidate Ability, Okidogi's Attack stat will instead be increased. He also can't be forcibly removed from battle if hit by moves such as Dragon Tail or Circle Throw. |
Best Natures & Moves for Okidogi
For trainers looking to optimize Okidogi's performance, prioritizing his Attack over his Special Attack is recommended. To achieve this, it is advisable to employ an Adamant Nature (+Attk, -Sp.Attk). Alternatively, those who prefer to capitalize on Okidogi's formidable Defense may opt for an Impish Nature (+Def, -Sp.Attk). Lastly, trainers seeking to enhance Okidogi's speed growth can consider a Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Attk).
Natures to avoid are those that will decrease Okidogi's Attack, Defense, or Speed. These include:
Timid: +Spd, -Attk
Brave: +Attk, -Spd
Bold: +Def, -Attk
Lonely: +Attk, -Def
Mild: +Sp.Attk, -Def
Modest: +Special Attack, -Attack
Although it is beneficial to have a boost in stats like Attack, Defense, or Speed for Okidogi, trainers should steer clear of having a decrease in any of its top stats (namely, Attack, Defense, or Speed). One might think that a Bold Nature is ideal as it enhances Okidogi's Defense development, but it hampers his Attack stat. Similarly, a Lonely Nature boosts Attack growth, but Defense is adversely affected.
Trainers who capture Okidogi have the option to change its Nature using a Nature Mint, if they are unsatisfied with its current Nature. Glowing sparkles on the ground in Paldea indicate the presence of these Nature Mints. After obtaining 7 Gym Badges, trainers can purchase any type of Mint from the Chansey Supply Stores located in Mesagoza, Levincia, Cascarrafa, and Montenevera.
With the exception of Howl and Bulk Up, Okidogi's learnset consists solely of physical moves. Despite being a dual Poison-Fighting type, Okidogi primarily learns Fighting-type moves. However, it does learn some of the better Poison-type physical moves in Scarlet/Violet, which means trainers may not necessarily need to rely on Technical Machines (TMs) to optimize Okidogi's moveset.
Here are some suggested movesets for Okidogi (nature: adamant, impish, or jolly):
Moveset #1 | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Move | Typing | Power | Accuracy | PP |
Crunch | Dark-type | 80 | 100% | 15 |
Bulk Up | Normal-type | N/A | N/A | 20 |
Poison Jab (or Poison Fang) | Poison-type | 80 | 100% | 20 |
Drain Punch (or Brick Break) | Fighting-type | 75 | 100% | 10 |
Moveset #2 | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Move | Typing | Power | Accuracy | PP |
Crunch | Dark-type | 80 | 100% | 15 |
Ice Punch | Ice-type | 75 | 100% | 15 |
Poison Jab | Poison-type | 80 | 100% | 20 |
Drain Punch (or Brick Break) | Fighting-type | 75 | 100% | 10 |
Moveset #3 | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Move | Typing | Power | Accuracy | PP |
Bulk Up | Normal-type | N/A | N/A | 20 |
Taunt | Dark-type | N/A | 100% | 20 |
Poison Fang | Poison-type | 50 | 100% | 15 |
Drain Punch | Fighting-type | 75 | 100% | 10 |
Poison Jab is the better choice compared to Poison Fang due to its higher Power and PP. However, Poison Fang has the potential to badly poison the target, while Poison Jab simply inflicts regular poison. It's worth noting that badly poison gradually increases in strength with each turn, whereas regular poison's damage remains constant.
When it comes to Okidogi, Drain Punch is the recommended move instead of Brick Break because it not only deals damage but also restores Okidogi's health upon successfully hitting the opponent. Unfortunately, Drain Punch is not a move that Okidogi naturally learns, so trainers will need to obtain TM073 in order to teach it to Okidogi. On the other hand, Brick Break deals the same amount of damage as Drain Punch but has the added benefit of removing the opponent's Reflect and/or Light Screen. Trainers can teach Brick Break to Okidogi using TM058.
Crunch provides Okidogi with protection against Psychic-type moves, making it a valuable move to counter this weakness. Thunder Punch and Ice Punch can also be used for additional coverage, but Psychic-types should be the main concern. Trainers have the option of including both Thunder/Ice Punch and Crunch in Okidogi's moveset if desired. Additionally, using Crunch may occasionally cause the opponent to flinch, but this only applies when Okidogi attacks first.
Moving on, Taunt and Bulk Up are both status moves. Taunt prevents opposing Pokemon from using status moves, effectively thwarting attempts to set up defenses such as Reflect or inflict confusion with Confuse Ray. On the other hand, Bulk Up raises Okidogi's Attack and Defense by one stage. Since Okidogi cannot learn Swords Dance, Bulk Up is the optimal choice for boosting its attack stat during battles.
