The fast and frenetic combat in Hades set it apart from other action-based rogue-likes, earning it much praise. With Melinoe taking over from Zagreus in Hades 2, players can expect the satisfying tradition of intense combat to continue. One of the key features that made battles in the original game exciting was the ability to unlock additional aspects for each weapon. If Hades 2 follows this tradition of unlocking hidden aspects for weapons, it should delve deep into mythology, just like its predecessor.
In the original Hades, players could unlock a total of six weapons, each with a hidden aspect tied to a mythological figure from beyond Greek Mythology. These figures included King Arthur, Guan Yu, Beowulf, Rama, Gilgamesh, and Lucifer. These additions not only enhanced gameplay but also enriched the story. Hades 2 can build upon the original game by utilizing the Hidden Aspects system once again, allowing the characters associated with these aspects to interact with Melinoe, even if only briefly.
Hades 2 Should Feature More Powerful Women
Starting with a well-known figure in the Western world, Hades 2 introduces Joan of Arc, a real historical figure who was believed to have divine guidance. Her inclusion in the game as a female warrior and early feminist makes perfect sense, as she can offer valuable advice to Melinoe, another young woman engaged in combat for powerful men.
Another historical figure deserving of inclusion in Hades 2 is Cleopatra, the original femme fatale who played a significant role in Egypt's survival against the Roman Empire. The shared enemy of the Romans adds an element of fun to this tie-in, highlighting both Cleopatra's and Melinoe's resilience.
Lastly, the Pirate Queen of Ireland, Grace O'Malley, brings a touch of folklore to the game. Her story of fighting against the mighty English Empire as a female pirate captain during the 16th century is undeniably noteworthy and adds excitement to the game. While Melinoe differs from Zagreus in many ways, improving her combat skills is an aspect that will carry over from the first game.
The Goddess of Death in Hades 2
Hades 2 boasts a diverse array of gods, from both Greek mythology and other cultures. One such addition is Itzpapalotl, the Aztec Goddess of Death, known for her dual nature as both seductive and terrifying. With her butterfly-like appearance, she seamlessly fits into the world of Hades. Additionally, the game could benefit from the inclusion of Mu Guiying, a renowned martial arts master and legendary heroine from the Song Dynasty, as well as the Trung sisters, courageous military leaders who defended Vietnam against a Chinese invasion.
Supergiant Games would miss a major opportunity if Hades 2 does not venture beyond the realm of Greek mythology. By allowing Melinoe, the goddess of ghosts and shades, to interact with these powerful and captivating women, the hidden aspect system could be significantly enhanced. Regardless of the direction taken, Hades 2 promises thrilling battles and intriguing new characters.
