The Quadra Type-66, also known as 'Cthulhu', is a high-speed sports car featured in the popular game Cyberpunk 2077. With a maximum speed of 185 mph, it ranks among the fastest cars available. Players can obtain this impressive vehicle for free by making the 'right' choices in the game, but even if they miss this opportunity, there is a chance to purchase it later on. In the bustling Night City of Cyberpunk 2077, there is a diverse range of individuals, including enthusiasts of retro-futuristic cars. Exploring the city and its missions, such as the adrenaline-fueled Beast in Me races and the quest to locate Delamain's lost vehicles in the Epistrophy missions, involves a significant amount of driving. While players initially start with a mediocre car, they have the potential to acquire more prestigious vehicles, such as the Quadra Type-66.
Updated July 4th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: In the much-anticipated release of Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion, numerous new cars have been hinted to be on their way. However, this doesn't mean that players should cease their car collection endeavors. What better way to embrace the true essence of Night City than by showcasing V's newfound riches through the acquisition of various types of vehicles? And when it comes to exceptional choices, particularly for sports cars, the Quadra Type-66, also known as the 'Cthulhu', stands out. Acquiring this car, though, requires a bit of effort, especially if players are unwilling to pay a substantial 76k Eddies for it. Therefore, let's delve into the step-by-step process of obtaining this vehicle without any cost.
Where To Obtain The Quadra Type-66
In-game, players have access to a variety of free sweet rides. These can be obtained through side missions or by stumbling upon them at the right moment. It's important for players to be aware of these opportunities, as nothing in Night City comes without a cost. Fortunately, some of the game's fastest and most valuable vehicles can be acquired easily and without spending a dime. One such vehicle is the Quadra Type-66 'Cthulhu'.
Peter Sampson, also known as Sampson, is the owner of Cthulhu and a prominent racer whom V encounters in The Beast in Me death race side missions. These missions are undertaken with Claire Russell, the renowned bartender at the Afterlife Bar. As the questline progresses, Claire discloses that Sampson was responsible for the "death" of her husband during a race and expresses her desire for revenge.
In order to progress through The Beast in Me side mission, players must achieve a top-three finish in at least two of the three qualifying races leading up to the final race.
The potential rewards for completing this quest depend on how V either supports or dissuades Claire from seeking revenge. Ultimately, the ideal outcome would be obtaining both the Cthulhu and Claire's Modified Thorton Mackinaw truck. Therefore, players have two options for this side mission if they wish to acquire the car without any cost: either choose 'Don't Follow Sampson' or follow him and advise Claire to 'Let Him Go'.
Don't Follow Sampson
In the event that players solely desire the Cthulhu or if they hold the belief that revenge is not the solution, it is imperative for them to remain and complete the final Beast in Me race, instead of pursuing Sampson.
Let Him Go
When Sampson deviates from the race route, players are unable to heed Claire's advice and pursue him. Despite Claire's initial frustration, opting for this choice does yield certain advantages and ultimately concludes the questline. However, Claire keeps possession of The Beast for herself.
However, for players who desire the utmost advantage in aiding Claire while simultaneously acquiring both vehicles, it is crucial to make the subsequent decisions. Specifically, during the conversation between V and Claire, as they gaze upon the sprawling metropolis of Night City following the conclusion of the third qualifying race, it is imperative to communicate the following phrase: 'My primary focus is achieving victory.'
Later on, when V and Claire confront Sampson after he's crashed (after choosing to follow him), instruct Claire to release him. If everything was executed correctly, she will obey V's command and depart. Consequently, both Sampson and Claire will willingly surrender their vehicles to V shortly after, although Sampson may take some in-game time before he contacts V regarding it. However, it is worth noting that obtaining a reward from the individual who murdered Claire's husband may leave a distasteful impression on most players.
How To Buy The Quadra Type-66 Cthulhu
If the player did not choose any of the options mentioned above or selected a different combination of choices, it is highly likely that Sampson was killed by Claire. Once all the events unfold, V can proceed to purchase the Cthulhu from Regina Jones. However, they will have to wait for Regina herself, also known as the fixer, to contact them with the offer. This purchase will incur a significant cost of 76,000 Eddies.
How The Quadra Type-66 Compares To Other Cars
: Multiple Options for Players Who Want Sampson's Car but not Sampson HimselfSeeking both Cthulhu from Sampson and the Beast from Claire free of cost is undeniably the best choice. However, for those players who have an intense desire to eliminate Sampson yet retain ownership of his car, there are still numerous alternatives available.
So, here's the million-dollar question: is the 'Cthulhu car' truly deserving of all the blood, sweat, and tears shed by Peter Sampson? Without a doubt. Purely based on its statistics, this vehicle secures a prominent place among the top ten fastest cars in the entire game, standing strong at around eighth position overall.
Moreover, among the numerous Quadra Type-66 cars in the game, exceeding the count of 5, the Cthulhu stands out as the one most resembling a muscle car straight out of a Fast and the Furious film. However, it is essential to bear in mind that this car does not possess exceptional handling capabilities and offers only a single passenger seat. Therefore, it is crucial to weigh the pros and cons, particularly considering the upcoming release of the Phantom Liberty DLC, which is sure to introduce a plethora of new cars to acquire.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
