Super Mario Bros. Wonder was initially revealed in the June 2023 Nintendo Direct and is set to revolutionize Mario's 2D adventures, after the series of New Super Mario Bros. games for the past seven years and a decade-long hiatus. The art style, setting, and even Mario's voice have all been revamped, following Charles Martinet's recent retirement from the role. Needless to say, it is a highly anticipated game to watch out for this autumn, not only for devoted Nintendo fans. Therefore, Nintendo decided to heighten the excitement by hosting a dedicated Nintendo Direct solely focused on this title.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder Power-Ups List
In a specific segment of the recent 15-minute presentation, the narrator discussed various power-ups that can be utilized by nearly every member of the vast playable roster. The Elephant form, briefly introduced in the announcement trailer of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, enables the character to utilize its trunk to swat enemies, break blocks, and store water to spew at both foes and flowers. Additionally, they have the ability to dash across wide gaps and repel projectiles. The Bubble form allows the player to emit homing bubbles from their hands, which can trap and defeat enemies even when they are behind walls. Moreover, these bubbles can function as single-use trampolines. With the Drill form, the characters have the ability to burrow through floors and ceilings, eliminate more resilient enemies by touching them from below, and break solid blocks by performing a ground pound.

The Fire Flower, a commonly seen power-up in various Mario games, received more attention in the reveal trailer for the new game. However, its mechanics remain unchanged from New Super Mario Bros. U. Another tool called the Item Balloon has been introduced, allowing players to carry an additional power-up for emergency situations or switch between power-ups depending on the circumstances. While this feature is not entirely new, its balloon-like design sets it apart.
In addition to these power-ups, Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Nintendo Switch, released on October 20, 2023, showcased various new online features. It also introduced an impressive badge system that pays homage to the earlier Paper Mario games. The game included a captivating story setup, a vast and interactive world map, and many other exciting elements. With the release of the Super Mario RPG remake and the highly successful Super Mario Bros. Movie, it is evident that 2023 is shaping up to be Mario's year.
