Maine authorities are currently investigating several instances of active shooters, and a suspect is still at large, as stated by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office in a recent Facebook post.
In light of these events, the sheriffs office has advised all business establishments to either lockdown or close as they proceed with the investigation.
According to a Facebook post, the Maine State Police are currently addressing an ongoing situation involving an active shooter in Lewiston. In order to ensure safety, individuals are advised to remain indoors and secure their doors. If any suspicious activity or individuals are observed, it is crucial to contact 911 immediately.
Law enforcement responded to Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley on Mollison Way, and Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant on Lincoln Street, as reported by The Sun Journal newspaper.
According to Lewiston public information officer Derrick St. Laurent, another shooting was reported at the Walmart Distribution Center on Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, as stated in the Sun Journal newspaper.
Located approximately 36 miles north of Portland, Lewiston serves as the second-largest city in the state. In a recent communication on X, formerly known as Twitter, authorities in Auburn, Maine, also strongly advised residents to seek shelter as a precautionary measure considering the ongoing active shooter situation.
Auburn is less than 2 miles west from Lewiston.
