Team Europe successfully defended the Solheim Cup on Sunday by mounting a remarkable comeback to achieve a 14-14 tie against Team USA at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Andalucia, Spain. In a decisive moment, local favorite Carlota Ciganda triumphed over Nelly Korda in the penultimate singles match, securing the 14 points required for Europe to retain the cup. However, their attempt to secure an outright victory was thwarted as Lexi Thompson emerged victorious against Emily Pedersen in the final match.
The 18th edition of the biennial event has witnessed its first-ever tie, a significant milestone.
Suzann Pettersen, the European captain, adds another joyful chapter to her illustrious journey at the Solheim Cup, having made nine playing appearances.
"I think its meant to be. It came down to Carlota [Ciganda], in Spain, in her own hands," Pettersen told We.
"We have the best team. Im so proud of them, they play with their heart.
"There is no such thing as giving up, no matter what challenge is ahead. We got off to a rough start, but we dont look back - the skys the limit."

Ciganda expressed her joy and gratitude towards her captain, Suzann, and for representing Spain after receiving personal congratulations from King Felipe VI. She was thrilled with her flawless record of 3-0-0.
"When I encountered Suzann at the age of 16, she relayed a few details, and my immediate thought was that I would undertake this task solely for her. My motivation stemmed from my deep affection for her and the belief that she truly deserves it."
Led by Stacy Lewis, Team USA will have the opportunity to seek vengeance in just one year's time. The 2024 Solheim Cup is slated to take place at the Robert Trent Golf Club in Virginia, marking a return to even-numbered years. This scheduling adjustment aims to prevent any conflicts with the Ryder Cup, which commences in Rome on Friday.
