Unforeseen Circumstances Force Cancellation of EasyJet Flight

EasyJet flight abruptly canceled as a passenger's distressing act forced the aircraft to be evacuated, leaving travelers in an extremely unpleasant situation

A canceled easyJet flight resulted in passengers being asked to leave the aircraft, as it was discovered that someone had apparently defecated on the bathroom floor. The flight, originally scheduled to depart from the Spanish island of Tenerife to London Gatwick on Sunday evening, had already experienced multiple delays.

A passenger, who requested to be called Aaran to maintain privacy, informed CNN Travel that the flight encountered issues prior to departure. The original plane was replaced with a smaller aircraft, resulting in some passengers being denied boarding. Those who were able to board, with a delay of two hours, then had to endure over an hour of waiting on the ground as bags were removed due to the aircraft being too heavy.

Aaran described the atmosphere on the crowded flight as a combination of suspense and anger due to the prolonged delay. According to him, EasyJet planes lack comfort, with basic seats and mediocre legroom, resulting in a sense of tension among the passengers.

"Then, the pilot finally gave the all clear, and then he said that it will be about 20 minutes until departure," recalled Aaran.

"And thats when the incident happened with the defecation."

A very uncomfortable experience

Aaran claimed to be seated in the aircraft's middle section when he observed "two passengers" making their way to the forward lavatory. Subsequently, news started circulating about an individual defecating on the floor of the restroom, causing an undesirable odor to permeate the area.

According to Aaran, nobody was pleased with the situation, but he asserted that the majority regarded the incident as an unintentional occurrence.

He mentioned, "There was a general atmosphere of politeness among the passengers, with no conflicts or disputes."

Aaran stated that passengers were required to remain in their seats while the aircraft underwent cleaning. Following this, the captain informed the passengers that they would need to disembark. This announcement was recorded by another passenger, Kitty Streek, and shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Streek expressed his frustration to CNN Travel, stating that it was difficult to determine whether the person responsible had simply made an accidental mistake or acted out of anger due to the delayed flight. Regardless, the situation left him and the others feeling angry and stranded in a foreign country. Aaran added that the passengers had to wait an additional 30 minutes before being allowed to leave the plane. After that, he was provided accommodation at a hotel that was approximately a 45-minute drive from the airport. Finally, they were able to board a specially arranged "rescue" flight the next day.

Delta flight forced to turn around because of diarrhea incident

EasyJet confirmed the initial delays on flight EZY8054 on October 15 occurred due to "safety reasons."

Due to safety concerns, a few bags were unloaded and scheduled for transport on the next available flight as the aircraft was overweight, according to a statement. The flight was then delayed overnight as the aircraft needed additional cleaning. All customers were provided with hotel accommodations, but given the limited availability of nearby hotels, we also informed those who made their own bookings that they would be refunded.

EasyJet prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew above all else. Although the recent cancellation of Sunday's flight was beyond our control, we sincerely apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused. This cancellation comes in the wake of various disruptive incidents involving bodily fluids on board aircrafts.

In September, a passenger experiencing diarrhea caused a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Barcelona to return to its origin. Prior to this, Air Canada issued an apology when two passengers were seated in uncleaned seats that had previously been soiled by vomit. CNN Travel also documented an incident on an Air France flight from Paris to Toronto, where a passenger found hazardous blood and feces residue left from a previous flight beneath their seat.
