Matthew Belloni, a Hollywood expert, criticizes Lucasfilm for their lack of a clear strategy for the future of the Indiana Jones franchise. Since the introduction of Harrison Ford's adventurous archaeologist in Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, there have been four sequels. However, with Ford's impending departure after the upcoming fifth movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, it remains uncertain what will happen to the franchise. In his podcast, The Town, Belloni discusses the current troubled state of several major franchises, including Indiana Jones and Lucasfilm. He highlights the absence of a concrete plan after Ford's exit. To hear Belloni's full comment or listen to the podcast episode, please see the link below.
"That's not even a franchise. [Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny] is merely a cash grab with no intention of continuing the series. It seems like a desperate attempt to involve Harrison Ford in one more installment before he passes away. There are no plans for a follow-up to this movie. Can you imagine Phoebe Waller-Bridge taking on the role of Harrison Ford in future Indiana Jones sequels?
In typical Lucasfilm fashion, there is a lack of planning. They have not set up the groundwork for five other movies. This is simply a rushed production to release one final film with Harrison Ford, and then they will figure out the next steps. Perhaps they will explore another Young Indiana Jones series or introduce a different actor to portray a new version of the character. I highly doubt their plan involves making a new Indiana Jones movie with Phoebe Waller-Bridge."
More to come...
