Understanding the Health Implications of Varicose Veins with Dr. Neisha Bunke

Varicose veins, once viewed as solely cosmetic concerns, are now recognized for their potential health risks such as blood clots and inflammation. Dr. Neisha Bunke's groundbreaking work has played a pivotal role in shifting this perception, shedding light on the importance of addressing varicose veins beyond their appearance.

Varicose veins are often seen as just a cosmetic concern. However, besides causing pain, swelling, and self-consciousness, they can also pose serious health risks if not addressed. These risks include blood clots and inflammation.

Dr. Nisha Bunke, a pioneer in venous and lymphatic medicine, has played a significant role in changing perceptions in the field. In 2008, she became the first physician in the U.S. to complete specialized fellowship training in this area, thanks to the support of the American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS).

Bunke founded and serves as the medical director at La Jolla Vein & Vascular in California. She has assembled a team of specialists, including a vascular surgeon trained at Duke University and a vascular interventional radiologist trained at Harvard. All team members have completed fellowships and are skilled in treating venous and lymphatic disorders.

Bunke not only treats patients at her practice but also leads clinical research studies in the field of vein care for the last 15 years. She co-edited The Vein Book, a medical textbook for physicians, published by Oxford University Press in 2014. Additionally, her research was featured on the cover of the Journal of Vascular Ultrasound in 2018.

Bunke also developed Recova, a post-surgery recovery cream.

Vein disease is a common condition that affects many people. Fortunately, with increased awareness of the physical impact of these issues, new treatments have been developed. One of the latest procedures for treating varicose veins has shown great improvement in recovery time.

The misconception that varicose veins are only a cosmetic problem leads patients to suffer needlessly when treatment options are available and improving.
