Many Apex Legends players express their frustration with the Ranked mode, arguing that the battle royale game has a significant issue with its overly easy ranking system. Despite Respawn Entertainment's continuous efforts to improve the Ranked system throughout the years, this current season seems to be the most effortless for players to climb the ranks.
Apex Legends is presently in Season 17, and this new season has brought forth numerous changes to the game's virtual world, the Outlands. Alongside the introduction of the new Legend called Ballistic and various adjustments made to the World's Edge map, Respawn Entertainment has also made tweaks to the Ranked mode within the battle royale game. These alterations include the implementation of placement matches, the removal of the midseason Ranked Split, and the incorporation of a fresh Ladder Points system. Moreover, changes have also been made to the entry cost for Ranked games, which is now uniform regardless of the player's rank. Despite the intention behind these changes being to cultivate a more advantageous environment for the Ranked mode, many players believe that the opposite effect has occurred.
As Season 17 progresses, an increasing number of players are voicing their concerns about a significant problem in Ranked play. Specifically, they argue that attaining the Masters rank in the game has become too easy. According to Apex Legends Status, a website monitoring rank distribution for Apex Legends, nearly 20% of players currently hold the Masters rank. This high percentage has led many players to believe that ranking up in the game lacks the challenge it once had.
The issue was brought to light by "minustempo," a player manager affiliated with the esports organization TSM, in a recent tweet. The tweet garnered considerable attention from the Apex Legends community. In the tweet, minustempo expressed how professional players have lost interest in playing ranked matches due to the overabundance of Masters-ranked players. This influx of lower-skilled players in higher-level lobbies has diminished the sense of achievement associated with reaching the Masters rank in Apex Legends. Furthermore, minustempo dismissed the significance of the badge given for reaching Masters, deeming it "meaningless"- a stark contrast to its highly sought-after reputation among players.
Not every player has an issue with Apex Legends' current Ranked system, but many agree with minustempo's assessment. Numerous gamers have expressed that they reached the Masters rank and lost interest. Pro players, including ImperialHal, have also voiced their concerns about the current Ranked situation.
It will be intriguing to see when Respawn Entertainment will implement more changes to Apex Legends' Ranked system. Although the developer's plans are unclear, the next opportunity for a Rank shakeup is likely to occur at the beginning of Season 18. Unfortunately, Season 18 is not expected to start until August, meaning that the Masters rank will probably remain oversaturated in the near future.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
