Fans have uncovered an exciting Easter egg in relation to Guilty Gear Strive's newest DLC character, Johnny, which allows him to have facial hair. Guilty Gear Strive remains popular with its three seasons of downloadable content, with the second season recently concluding. This season pass introduced a mix of familiar and fresh fighters, including Sin Kiske, Bridget, and Bedman(?), as well as the highly anticipated character Asuka R#. Arc System Works wasted no time in announcing the third season pass, and the first character was revealed at the prestigious fighting game tournament, EVO, earlier this August.

Just before the top six finals of Strive, Arc System Works unveiled that Johnny, a beloved Guilty Gear fighter, would be joining the game on August 24. Johnny is the leader of the Jellyfish Pirates, the same group that May belongs to, and he has been a consistent presence in the series since its inception. He previously appeared as a DLC character in Guilty Gear Xrd and its re-release, Rev 2. With his arrival in Strive, some lucky fans have had early access to playing as Johnny and have discovered a new feature implemented by Arc System Works to alter his appearance.

At VSFightingXI, a fighting game convention, players had the opportunity to experience the latest changes for Season 3 of Guilty Gear Strive in person. Among those in attendance was MysticSmash, a Twitter user, who had the chance to explore Johnny's kit and experiment with him on the character select screen. Interestingly, if a player highlights Johnny and presses up, he will appear with an alternate skin sporting a full-grown beard. This Easter egg was met with excitement from many fans, who appreciated Johnny's new look.

For newer fans of the Guilty Gear series, this bearded appearance might be unfamiliar, leading to questions about when this beloved character ever had facial hair. Some commenters have pointed out that this look could be a reference to Johnny's appearance in Guilty Gear Vastedge XT, a Japan-only slot machine visual novel game available on pachinko and mobile devices. In that game, Johnny was depicted with a beard, although his current character model has been updated for this iteration.

Johnny is being promoted as one of the beginner-friendly characters in Guilty Gear Strive. Arc System Works has classified him as "Easy-to-Use."
