The major highlight of the Mountain Pass in Baldur's Gate 3 is the Rosymorn Monastery, which has been taken over and transformed into Crèche Y'llek by the githyanki. These crèches serve as safe havens for githyanki parents to raise their children away from any potential threats, as time stands still in their Astral Plane home.
Crèche Y'llek is integral to various quests in Baldur's Gate 3, and not all of them revolve around Lae'zel. While venturing towards the monastery, players may come across a woman who requests that the party steals an egg from the crèche on behalf of the Society of Brilliance. Locating the egg itself is relatively easy, but successfully retrieving it without engaging in combat proves to be much more challenging.
Where to Find Lady Esther
The quest giver for the githyanki egg is Lady Esther, located at a campsite northeast of the Trielta Crags waypoint. To reach her, players should first descend the north staircase and then proceed to the right.
Although Lady Esther may not make the best first impression, her purpose is to deliver a githyanki egg to the Society of Brilliance. This group aims to provide a more nurturing environment for the gith, despite Esther's belief that their nature as hostile warmongers is inevitable from birth. Nevertheless, the Society compensated her generously for her efforts, and she is willing to reward the party if they succeed in retrieving an egg that she could not.
Crèche Y'llek Hatchery Location
Players encounter various challenges on their way from Lady Esther to Crèche Y'llek. Firstly, they must overcome cliffs filled with repulsion mines, which can be bypassed by successfully activating the cable car through a challenging Athletics check. Additionally, they must navigate through the outer ruins of Rosymorn Monastery, which are inhabited by strange creatures and scavengers.
Eventually, players will discover a set of large doors leading to the lower level of the monastery. This level serves as the crèche for the githyanki, who react aggressively to outsiders. Players can potentially avoid combat by convincing the guards of their intentions through a difficult interaction roll. Alternatively, they can rely on Lae'zel to take the lead and gain entry without any difficulty. Once inside, they should head left, then right, and proceed to the large room filled with acid pools.
How to Get the Githyanki Egg Peacefully
The hatchery appears unusually vacant, a detail that Lae'zel will likely observe if she is present. Positioned at the northwestern extremity of the chamber, the path leading to it is riddled with concealed traps and patches of corrosive acid. To circumvent these hazards entirely, leap over the rocks directly ahead and ascend to the githyanki perched on the vantage point just east of the egg.
This particular gith, known as Varsh Ko'kuu, assumes responsibility for overseeing the hatchery. He will clarify that the egg is the final one from its group still awaiting hatching. Ordinarily, he would be compelled to destroy the egg due to its protracted period of incubation. Nonetheless, he is postponing this directive to afford the egg the best possible chance of hatching.
If the party member engaging with Ko'kuu successfully passes an Insight check, they will be able to inquire for additional information. Following that, they can choose to attempt a Persuasion, Deception, or Intimidation check in order to acquire the egg from him. If Ko'kuu agrees, he will provide the party with Varsh Ko'kuu's Boots, granting immunity to acidic surfaces (such as the pool below) and reducing damage taken from sources of Acid by half.
Designate a party member to wear the boots, separate them from the group, and have them utilize the nearby ladder to approach the egg. With Ko'kuu's consent, none of the crèche inhabitants will attack the party for removing the egg, and even Lae'zel's perception of the protagonist will not be altered. Players can employ the Trielta Crags waypoint to return to Lady Esther. Once the egg is given to her, she will reward the party with a substantial amount of gold and assure them that she will reappear in Baldur's Gate.
If players opt for an alternate approach, they can make their way through the crèche and seize the egg en route. Prior to entering the acid, make sure to strip Ko'kuu of his Boots.
