The TV series Heels delves into the behind-the-scenes conflicts of professional wrestling while also incorporating the intricacies of the Spade family dynamics. Staci emerges as the voice of reason within the Spade household. In the second season, we explore the extent to which Tom Spade and his spouse have been psychologically affected. How do you perceive Stacy's marriage to this eccentric wrestling family?

Alison Luff believes that everyone has a hint of eccentricity within them. Each person has their own issues, including Staci. However, Staci and her family have additional challenges to face. The lasting impact of Tom's suicide has deeply affected them. Staci particularly views Carol and Tom's relationship as a prime example of what she does not want in her own marriage. Although she respects and values them as her in-laws, their dynamic serves as a stark reminder of the kind of marriage she wishes to avoid. Nonetheless, Staci does not believe that Jack possesses the same qualities as Tom did. This contrast between the two characters adds depth to the narrative. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they manage to create a loving family unit, whether it is through wrestling or through their marriage into a family.

In Season 2, Staci chooses to distance herself from Jack. Can you elaborate on why she felt so let down by him in Season 1, especially considering the revelation that Jack was the one who betrayed Ace?

Alison Luff: Staci, in my opinion, embodies the concept of accountability. I believe this is crucial for a successful partnership. Holding your partner accountable is essential, but it's also important to extend grace towards them. Staci's concern arose when she noticed a breakdown in communication with Jack during season 1. Instead of open and honest dialogue, it became a series of small misrepresentations and lies, which Staci cannot tolerate. She made her stance clear, and Jack had to face the consequences of his choices. This is just how life works.

Personally, I don't see confrontation as a negative aspect of a relationship. In fact, healthy disagreements are actually healthy for a relationship. If there's never anything to disagree on, it may indicate a lack of passion or interest. Discord itself isn't the problem; it's about how you handle it. Staci disapproved of Jack's approach to confrontations because it seemed like he was oblivious to the bigger picture. All she wanted was for him to remove his blinders and realize the sacrifices he was making for the sake of his ego, at the expense of his brother and family. The most important thing to him should not be something that is less significant than his family.

Staci's role in the show underwent a significant transformation from season 1 to season 2. In the initial season, she remained somewhat removed from the daily operations of the DWL. However, in the second season, there was a deliberate shift to involve Staci more prominently in the wrestling aspect of the show, in addition to her existing involvement with the Jack's family. By doing so, the creators made a clever decision that added depth to Staci's character. I am curious to hear your perspective on why Staci decided to immerse herself in the gritty world of DWL.

Staci's discord and temporary separation from Alison taught her the importance of extending grace to her partner. While she may not fully grasp the significance of DWL like Jack does, she acknowledges its importance to him. Staci recognizes the necessity of having things that bring happiness and contentment in our lives, enabling us to fulfill our obligations joyfully. Therefore, she accepts that DWL is crucial for Jack's happiness and willingly embraces it, as long as their own needs are also considered.

Taking a proactive approach, Staci assertively expresses her desire to have a say in the family business, DWL. She wants to contribute to its smooth and honest operation to the best of her abilities. Recognizing her potential and skills, Staci offers her assistance wholeheartedly, resulting in a successful partnership.

Alison Luff believes that Staci and Willie are distinct individuals who possess differing personalities and strengths. Despite Staci's initial idealism and the disheartening revelations about Tom Spade's management of DWL, Alison Luff does not perceive her as veering towards becoming like Willie. Staci, being adept at introspection and confronting challenges, has the ability to learn from her mistakes and confront difficulties head-on. This divergent approach to handling situations highlights the contrasting nature of these two women.

However, I believe Staci will eventually develop a deeper understanding and empathy towards Willie, realizing that life is not always so clear-cut and immaculate as it may appear. Nevertheless, Staci's unwavering devotion to her family will always remain her top priority. She will go to great lengths to protect them, even if it means bending a few rules along the way. Staci is undeniably a fierce and protective mother.

In the show Heels, there are three exceptional female characters: Staci, Willie, and Crystal. Each of them possesses distinct qualities and presents invaluable perspectives. Could you please share your insights on all three characters and what they contribute to the overall narrative?

Alison Luff admires Crystal for her resilience and perseverance, as she never backs down from challenges. Similarly, Staci also possesses these qualities. Alison appreciates Willie's straightforwardness and honesty, which she believes is shared by Staci. Each woman has their own unique strengths, with Willie staying true to herself and expressing facts efficiently. Staci respects and learns from this trait. Although they have these commonalities, Alison acknowledges that they are ultimately distinct individuals with diverse strengths.

You have a lot of scenes at ringside watching DWL shows. Do you want to get in the ring? Or are you happy to leave that to Kelli Berglund and the guys?

Alison Luff: Observing their actions brings me joy. Working out alongside them is a delight. That's the enjoyable part - training with them. However, I don't step into the ring. While I can envision Staci taking the microphone, I don't see her entering the ring. The feasibility of her wrestling in the storyline is uncertain. Staci possesses athletic abilities, maintaining her own fitness and endurance. Nevertheless, I believe Jack may not desire her involvement in that manner. Staci wants Jack to pursue his own passions. Yet, I can picture her excelling on the microphone since she has a natural flair for it.

Without revealing any spoilers, season 2 concludes on a captivating cliffhanger. I can foresee Staci assuming more responsibility and becoming further immersed in the situation to compensate for Jack's absence. Do you think Staci could assist Jack by crafting the storylines? She seems to be the only person capable of preventing him from deviating from the script. It appears to be his major Achilles heel - he always tends to stray from the planned direction.

Alison Luff: Jack has always relied on Staci for advice throughout the story, which the writers find crucial. He shares scripts with her, passes along ideas, and seeks her feedback. I believe they will definitely continue this dynamic.

Are there any specific moments or scenes in season 2 that you're excited for everyone to see?

Alison Luff: Filming the scenes where all the DWL characters were together, discussing their love for the DWL, was an incredibly enjoyable experience. It felt like a true celebration of our accomplishments and the connections these characters have formed. It was a lot of fun to shoot because we were all on set that day.

Additionally, I really enjoyed shooting the scene in episode 1 with Barbara Holtz, which provided a glimpse into Staci's past and revealed a more unhinged side of her. It was interesting to drop her usual manners and explore a different side of her character. The following scene, where I got to film with Ace and delve into their relationship, was also a highlight. They may be siblings through marriage, but Ace is like her baby brother, which explains her protective nature towards him. This dynamic was a source of tension in season 1 as well. Acting alongside Xander is always a joy, and though we didn't have many one-on-one scenes, it was a truly enjoyable experience.
