Stephen King has recommended Apple TV+'s series, Lisey's Story, as the ideal show to watch in July. Lately, the renowned horror author has been sharing his favorite television recommendations on social media. From the murder mystery Poker Face to the horror series From and the sci-fi hit Silo, King has given his seal of approval. However, his latest endorsement holds a special significance. Taking to Twitter, King informed his followers that July would be the perfect time to binge-watch Lisey's Story, a 2021 miniseries on Apple TV+ adapted from his own 2006 novel bearing the same title.
What To Know About Lisey's Story
In King's latest tweet, he suggests that July would be the perfect month to indulge in LISEY'S STORY, exclusively on Apple+. It's worth mentioning that all the episodes are expertly directed by the talented Pablo Larrain, while the captivating storyline is meticulously crafted by none other than King himself. Larrain has established his reputation through his exceptional direction of the 2016 film Jackie, which starred Natalie Portman, as well as his recent work on Spencer in 2021, where Kristen Stewart brilliantly portrayed Princess Diana.
Lisey's Story, with its eight captivating episodes, delves into the life of Lisey Landon, masterfully portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore. Set two years after the loss of her husband, renowned writer Scott Landon (brilliantly portrayed by Oscar nominee Clive Owen), a series of unsettling events force Lisey to confront suppressed memories of their marriage that she had intentionally concealed.
Lisey's Story, featuring an ensemble cast including Joan Allen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dane DeHaan, Sung Kang, Michael Pitt, and Ron Cephas Jones, holds a deep personal significance for King. The inspiration for this novel struck him during his hospitalization for a severe bout of pneumonia, when his home office was undergoing painting and renovation. Upon his return, he discovered his belongings, including his beloved books, packed away in boxes.
This experience made him consider the possibility of this room resembling what it would look like after his passing, and the daunting task his wife, Tabitha, would face. Produced by JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Lisey's Story artfully explores these themes with exceptional performances from its talented cast, while retaining King's personal touch. Premiering in June and running through July 2021, revisiting the show after two years could be an opportune moment.
